an album that i feel it's ahead of its time by the fact that people are not yet ready to try to understand this sub genre of hip hop. for those who already get it, this is easily the best project of its kind so far. stunning production values and great harmonies all rover the tracks make this a really great project and a huge step up in the direction from travis scott. 4+

Renders the redundancies of hip-hop profligacy into an elaborate and intoxicating Terminator-esque wasteland where everything+everyone sounds larger than life: the hooks are I-give-up indomitable, malefic bass strangles the senses (and apparently broke all his mama's vases), bushels of nuance continuously tumble from the smoky depths. Some leeway is lent for oddball playfulness and mopey warblers, and though gravelly grandeur is most certainly a massive hoister, let us not forget the oh so essential profusion of show-stealer guest spots: The Weeknd's miraculous alien hook, the hilarious gasconade of 2 Chainz ("My bathtub the size of swimming pools / Backstroke to my children's room" "Drinking breast-milk out a lean cup"), a Toro y Moi collaboration that somehow does fly pretty damn high, T.I. as part-time narrator (!), the amalgamation of Young Thug+Justin Bieber (!!). Ah and there's this "Kanye West" character stumblin' and wailin' through some anti-art attempt at artiness -- supposedly he's a mentor now or something.

Travis Scott is the wackest rapper of the 2010s. Totally Milli Vanilli. The pioneer of the kewl sound segment of the Kanye West production palate. The problem? There's no Mike Dean to make it all make sense. Doesn't use talents of others in any coherent way like his boss does. You have kewl sounds, rappers conflicting with one another, and Travis Scott sucking all the energy out of the room with his one to zero dimesionial verses. Wackest non-Lil Dicky Rapper of the 2010s.

After a whole playthrough of Travis Scotts first commercial debut I can honestly say I am very underwhelmed. Scott, always an artist to go in a different direction has me lost on this album. For some reason I feel like hes blurring the lines between quality and obscurity. As if the unique direction, atmospheric production and echoing voices all arent really adding up to an enjoyable product.rSome of the media, or fans might declare it an instant classic but I felt underwhelmed on my first impression. Maybe two or three songs I would listen to again. For all the hype and wait I was very disappointed.

Bloated and too long. But goddamn, the highlights are way too fucking good, whether soulful ("90210"), exercises in featuring the right artist to the right track ("3500", "Maria I'm Drunk", not you "Pray 4 Love"), or simply anthemic as hell ("Nightcrawler", "Antidote"). Also the production is bonkers, the drums' sound is as crispy as the best chicken - ultimately confirming that Scott is more comfortable as an entertainer than as a trve rapper.

Incredibly enjoyable record. Insane production, Travis really emerges out of this record as the king of psychedelic trap (might be bias but I love his style). Some weak songs (Flying High, Piss on Your Grave, I can Tell) but in general, the songs are all 9s or 10s (in the case of 90210, Pray 4 love, Apple Pie specifically). While Astroworld is more consistent album, the highs on Rodeo are much higher but the lows are also lower. He also express much more individuality and personality in this record compared to Astroworld and Birds.

A guilty pleasure to say the least, but the decent singles and ambitious production keep it from feeling like a dime-a-dozen hip hop album with overblown features. But the lyricism is forgettable at best and terrible at worst, a pretty big problem in a genre that prides itself on lyricism.

89/100. This is the standard for trap. Scott takes a generic sound and makes it distinctly his own, warping trap-flavored instrumentals into a dark, woozy, and drunken experience. The features are all excellent here and I loved the amount of variety in song structure.

Travi$ Scott has potential, but he hasn't truly found his sound yet. Some of the tracks are decent, and that is mainly because of the production. Therefore, the production is the only reason I bumped this album from a 2 up to a 2.5. This is your typical trap music, but the production is a little more cohesive. The lyrical aspect of the album has no substance, but the production gives the album a decent listen. Perhaps we should give Travie a little time to find the sound he truly wants.
