Before I get started, I will admit to being a Shinedown fanboy so I'm probably biased(okay I'm very biased). But I still firmly believe that this is a fantastic record with some of Shinedown's best writing. Do I miss the style of albums like Us and Them and Leave a Whisper? Well, yes and no. If I'm being totally honest, Shinedown has always given me something that most bands don't give me, which is giving me what I didn't even know I wanted(which is a huge part of them being my favorite band). They take risks and experiment and always deliver for me personally, and this album is no exception. All the singles grew on me somethin' fierce and I couldn't help but constantly go back to them on my shuffle and the rest of the tracklist looks to be no different. The album flows great for me and doesn't really miss a beat. However, I completely understand old Shinedown fans having an issue with their new sound. Some will be on board, some won't be, and its completely understandable. But for me personally, I love the production, love the writing, love the hooks, its really everything I wanted from a new Shinedown record and more. I love it

Threat to Survival is reminiscent of Shinedown's 2005 release, Us and Them. Both albums further destroy the reputations of already overrated bands like Def Leppard and Nirvana. However, the thing with Threat to Survival is that it's one of those albums you can listen to in any mood you're in, unlike that *** Lincoln Park band or whatever their name is. By the way, Linkin Park, Lincoln Park, it doesn't matter, SUCKS! Threat to Survival was without a doubt 2015's best release.
This isn't even trolling either. Threat to Survival offers the best songs of Shinedown's storied career. Just a slew would include It All Adds Up, Misfits, and Outcast. Oh, and by the way, Bully is NOT a bad song. BULLY IS NOT A BAD SONG! Sticking to Threat to Survival, it shows that evolution is crucial to survival. GENIUS! You know what else is genius? THIS WHOLE ALBUM!
I don't even need to continue explaining why this album is the BEST! Because it is. It's SICK. To anyone who says "OH THEY EVOLVED! THEY SUCK" like SowingSeason, then learn to accept that everything needs to change. Btw, SowingSeason is the best reviewer on SputnikMusic, undoubtedly. But still, things have to evolve.
Threat to Survival was 2015's best album and was a significant improvement off of their *** album The Sound of Madness in 2008, though 2012's Amaryllis was ***ing gold. Those "classic" bands can suck balls, because they're no match for what Shinedown has given us here. The BEST THING EVER! I'M NOT KIDDING! WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?!

By switching up their style, Shinedown simultaneously impress and disappoint on their 5th studio ralbum. To put it simply, some ideas work and some just plain don't. Personally, I'm glad that they rchose not to release "Amaryllis Part 2," and I believe that this direction has promise, but there rare some obvious and glaring growing pains here. Still, it's a somewhat catchy and occasionally enjoyable album with rsome solid hooks and great individual tracks (Asking For It, Cut the Cord, It All Adds Up).
