I don't know if it was conditions, but although this has killer tracks and a killer vocal performance, I do feel like it struggles to really feel like an album sometimes. The tracks feel disjointed and like they dont have much to do with each other. 7 and 9 both feature aggressive beats whilst 8 and 10 are extremely soft songs, for instance. The opener is super class, and so are the softer songs, but it's truly when she adds in some groove that she truly shines imo - see 2 or 3. Very solid,very playlisty I daresay but I owe it another listen. 3.8

An absolutely lovely record carried by la Havas' gorgeous vocals and a not-too-bombastic-yet-not-too-subdued neo-soul instrumentation. Blood works especially well when finding the right balance between bombastic and subdued (these first four tracks, "Midnight").

the fact the this woman looks suspiciously like my wife may be skewing my opinion a bit but this is some fantastic neo/soul pop music by a truly skillful vocalist. glad I found this before the year was over.

one of the best neo soul releases of the year. i'm loving the lyrics, i'm loving the harmonic vocals, i'm loving the instrumentation, i'm loving everything. only a few missteps here and there (never get enough) don't allow this tape to truly shine! 4-

Serving as an adventurous departure from her acoustic folk debut, Lianne La Havas' new record is a sublime mix of neo-soul and R&B, but while also retaining much of what made her debut so enjoyable. From opener "Unstoppable", these changes are apparent, with production taking cues from jazz and soul providing an excellent backdrop for Havas' beautiful vocals. On the majority, though, the record isn't as bombastic. Just take "Wonderful" and closer "Good Goodbye" for example. The latter of those songs is undoubtedly one of the best things Havas has created, using acoustic guitar, strings, and her evocative voice and lyrics to carry the song to heavenly heights. For someone wanting to get in touch with her roots, Havas spent months in Jamaica creating the record, and does not skip a beat despite this change in sound.
