Does this need a soundoff? Who hasn't heard of Powerslave, often considered Iron Maiden's masterpiece. It has one of their few instrumentals, one of my favorite songs of all time, and there is not a single weak song. It's one of those 80s metal albums that have eight songs, but it's one of those 80s metal albums that has zero bad songs. This really needs no further introduction. Maiden is one of the greatest metal bands of all time, and this is one of the greatest metal albums of all time.

TWO! MINUTES! TO MIIIIIIIIIIIID-NIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT! Make no mistake: Powerslave is Iron Maiden's defining album and an absolutely essential album to own. I trust that I don't need to reiterate how awesome "2 Minutes to Midnight" is, but it is easily one of Maiden's best songs. The main riff on this track is brilliant, and Harris' vocals and lyrics are terrific: "We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies" is an intense line, but the chorus is [obviously] incredible to sing along to. "Aces High" and the instrumental track "Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)" can stand on their own without explanation. Ultimately, this is a must-own album for any metal or rock fan, and basically cements Iron Maiden's status as one of the elite metal acts of all-time.

I've been getting into Iron Maiden lately, and this was the first album I bought ( well, studio album. i have Edward the Great ) This is a GREAT album! With such greats as Powerslave, Aces High, 2 Mins To Midnight, and Rime of the Ancient Mariner, this is a great Iron Maiden album, and I would definetly recommend it to anybody who wants to get into Iron Maiden.

Iron Maiden, the classic metal band that is impossible to hate even after "Virtual XI" and "No Prayer for the Dying," Iron Maiden does not fail to impress. "Powerslave" is the best album that words cannot explain. Every song on this album is incredible and the ending, though very long, is extremely entertaining. The title song "Powerslave" is a mixture of amazing lyrics and jaw-dropping instrumentals. As usual, both guitarists play the s**t of the guitars especially during the instrumental "Losfer Words." This is my favorite Iron Miaden album and my favorite metal album overall.

Powerslave, the only Maiden album where I've heard every song on it. The title track Powerslave is one of my top 5 favorite songs ever. The grandiose arrangement of the track is unmatched. The lyrics are easily my favorite ever (I am wanting to become an Egyptologist) In fact, the rest of the tracks are pretty great too. Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight, all rule.

This album is very known for containing some of the greatest Maiden songs ever recorded, and it definitely earns that praise. Aces High, 2 Minutes To Midnight, Powerslave, and Rime of the Ancient Mariner are all the cream of the crop when it comes to Iron Maiden songs, with Rime being quite possibly my all time favorite. The reason for the 4, however, is the four tracks in the middle. Losfer Words is pretty much a marginal track and nothing more. Flash Of The Blade has a FANTASTIC intro, but the rest of the track is severely lacking. The Duellists and Back In The Village are definitely better, especially the fantastic guitar work on Back In The Village, but if you ask me, this album is still excellent. Highly reccomended.

Few artists make a great album and continue to make great albums afterwards. Maiden are an exception. Their first album was a great album, as well as the second. And third. And fourth. Their fifth album is without a shadow of a doubt the band's magnum opus. It is truly a masterpiece. Aces High, Two Minutes To Midnight, Powerslave, and Rime Of The Ancient Mariner are all on this CD. What more could one ask for? Every Maiden album released in the 80's has a classic on it. Number Of The Beast has 3 classics, Piece Of Mind has 3, but Powerslave has 4. And that doesn't mean that the other songs aren't great either. It's just that the 4 I mentioned are considered by all Maiden fans as Maiden classics. Flash of the Blade, Back In The Village, every song is excellent. I give this a 5/5. What did you think I would give it?

I can't decide between this and 'NOTB' which is their best, it depends on my mood on a given day. '2 Minutes to Midnight' is one of the best songs here along with 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' and 'Aces High' while 'Powerslave' is one of my favourite Maiden songs

To me, this is where Maiden reached their peak as a band. The next Two albums would be almost as good as this (they even managed to be more creative wth all the concept and synths thing), but Powerslave is just a Classic between Classics, the egyptian vibe of the album is really amazing, one of the best atmospheres ever to be made. (There is quite a lot of ''atmospheric'' BM that could learn a thing or two of this)

"Powerslave" is Iron Maiden at their height of perfection. Following this album, Maiden started experimenting more, and prior to this album, Maiden rocked just a bit harder than they ever would again. What is so amazing about "Powerslave" is how it's nestled between those two styles; musical diversity and intricacy and pure rock anthems are combined brilliantly on this to create one hell of a classic metal record. Everything I love about old school Maiden is right here; catchy rock anthems like "Two Minutes to Midnight" and "Aces High", or more technically proficient songs with Maiden's signature layered guitar work like "Duellists" or "Back in the Village". It also ends with the grandiose epic, "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" which is one of the greatest songs in the history of metal. "Powerslave" also features the godlike wail of Bruce Dickinson, one of the most talented vocalists in all of rock music. "Powerslave" has everything a Maiden fan wants- fanastic guitar work, catchy rockers, a monster ending, and of course, the best fucking album art EVER. But seriously, "Powerslave" is the most rocking fucking metal album ever made, and even though it might hold as many catchy anthems as "Number of the Beast", it boasts any guitar players dream; the perfect combination of catchy rockers and beautifully layered harmonies. Up the irons. But really any audio recording of Bruce Dickinson singing any type of melody is a legit 5/5

From start to finish, this record is flat-out breakneck in it's pacing. It's unrelenting in it's metal assualt, with each new opening riff sending another burst of adrenaline down your spine. Plus it pulls the fantastic trick of ending with it's two best tracks back-to-back; The wonderfully Egyptian themed 'Powerslave' and the 13 minuet epic 'Rime Of The Ancient Mariner', which comes second only to 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' in the leauge of classic Maiden tracks. 'Powerslave' is a great Iron Maiden album, and certainly the best one to pump yourself up into a frenzy. Despite it's greatness, though, I prefer the slightly more catchy records.

What ultimately helps push Powerslave into the masterpiece territory is the remarkably varied and interesting closing track, "Rime of the Ancient Mariner." Outside of this classic is an album that has some very strong moments, with the title track and "2 Minutes to Midnight" being the next standouts. Even without a full selection of amazing tracks at-hand, this is, without a doubt, one of the most immediate and recommendable albums for anyone looking to get into power metal or heavy metal in-general.

1)Aces High (Harris)
Arguably the best opening track Maiden has ever recorded. The song has the sound and feel of a WWII dog-fight which is appropriate for the theme of the lyrics. Bruce’s vocals are similar to gunfire in its intensity and aggression. Steve’s bass compliments this well- it features more prominently than the guitar on this track. The guitar solo and the instrumental segments give the feel of aerial combat and the intertwining of aircrafts through the intricate note composition.
2)2 Minutes to Midnight (Dickinson/Smith)
This song was MADE to be sung collectively by 10000 screaming fans! Ominous lyrics exemplified by the genius that is Bruce Dickinson and the elaborate guitar work complimented by relentless drums give the song a very powerful effect. An instant favorite!
3)Losfer Words (Big 'Orra) (Harris)
The last instrumental to date by Maiden. What a pity! The quality of this track and the preceding instrumentals (particularly Transylvania) leave fans thirsty for more. In any case Losfer Words (Big 'Orra) can satisfy this thirst for the time being. The piece is built on a solid percussion base comprised of technical drumming and grinding bass and complimented by light airy guitar. Let’s hope for a repeat on the next album!
4)Flash of the Blade (Dickinson)
Another Dickinson solo project (rare but always a delight). Here he depicts the story of a fencer (autobiographical?) from childhood dreams to the intensity of the sport as an adult. The song IS intense from the get-go; it doesn’t let up. The furious solo is the icing on this magnificent cake!
5)The Duelists (Harris)
Yet another sword fighting song this time by the bassist. This one is about a real duel in which the protagonist of Harris’ tale is outmatched and defeated. In terms of musical quality I must say that the main riff is outstanding but the instrumental interlude is a tad too long. The solo is mediocre and so does not justify the length of the instrumental. The chorus I must say is catchy and well sung indeed.
6)Back in the Village (Dickinson/Smith)
A furious and fast paced offering. Back in the Village remains one of my least favorite Maiden songs. It is the sequel to The Prisoner from the album The Number of the Beast (which didn’t catch my fancy either). The cause for this weak performance is the lack of coordination between the musical elements- vocals, percussion and guitar. Poor chorus to say the least.
7)Powerslave (Dickinson)
Once again Dickinson goes solo with Powerslave. Next to Revelations this is the best song he has ever written. The Egyptian influence is absolutely superb. The guitar work is phenomenal as is the bass support proffered. Yet it is the chorus and vocal quality that strikes me most.
8)Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Harris)
If the bassist’s love for art and literature isn’t already clear, this 13 minute epic should clarify. The song is an album on its own and the variations between the segments of it give the listener a lot to chew on. From the chugging riff to the bass interlude this song has just too much to analyze! Before Maiden people didn’t know that a band could grip an audience for that long; as always Maiden tried the unthinkable and made it work!

Ah, Iron Maiden. When I was 14-15 I was into these guys like no other. I think I purchased every album but their lives ones, etc. But this one stuck out to me as their masterpiece, right ahead of Piece of Mind. The first track on the album, "Aces High", starts the album off very nicely, and the instrumental on track 3 is entertaining and doesn't slow down the album. "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is a pure, epic masterpiece. The guitar parts have great melody like most Maiden albums.

Powerslave is arguably Iron Maiden's most well known album, and with good reason. From start to beginning, Powerslave is full of the classic chugging riffs, dueling solos, and high pitched vocals that Iron Maiden have become known for. The album is full of classic songs that are still in rotation today; i.e. Powerslave, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Aces High. The guitar work on the album is phenomenal; the solos soar above the rhythms and manage to add a nice atmosphere to the songs. The only thing bad about the guitar work is that it may become slightly repetetive to some listeners. For example, songs like Flash of the Blade and Duelists sport the same chugging triplet riff and seem to blend together. The bass work is excellent as well. It is audible throughout the entire album, and keeps up with the guitars as though they were playing simple 4 chord progressions. Rime of the Ancient Mariner is most certainly a standout track for the bass, seeing as it is the backbone and brain of the song. The drumming is solid and keeps a nice hard hitting beat throughout, however much like the guitars, may become repetitive. The vocals are well above average, and the lyrics are phenomenal. All in all, Powerslave is the essential Iron Maiden album for any fan, or fan of metal in general. Standout Tracks: Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Powerslave, Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Below Average Tracks:Go look somewhere else.
