One of the things that appeals to me most about death metal is that it's not afraid to explore the darkest and most surreal areas of our minds, and isn't afraid to show us things we otherwise would be reluctant to see. It's this sentiment that permeates this record in bulk, sounding like a fierce case of dementia and sporadic rage that combines to create something quite unnerving. This is true even in the beginning seconds of the album. "My Buried Dream" starts with relatively calm, contained strings that quickly spiral downward into a chilling and atonal chasm. The band rushes forth from thereon out, and though they are influenced by the likes of Gorguts and Deathspell Omega, they keep these influences under wraps in favor of showing their own style and abilities. In general, what you'll hear is some of the most twisted, interesting, and really, really fun metal that this year has to offer. Quite a start for the Italian quartet, indeed.

Is it happening? Am I starting to enjoy death metal?
I come to this one via my love for the kinds of black metal that sound like you’re falling into
the depths of hell. Reverb, dissonance, chaos, and drummers that defy limbs - turn the lights out
and let the darkness wash over you. I even compiled as stupidly titled spotify playlist to cover
it, and decided to include death metal artists with the same atmosphere too. That has brought me
to Ad Nauseam, who are truly a death metal band, even if the atmosphere is more adjacent to
Deathspell Omega and Svartidauði than anyone else. And despite the standard issues I have with
death metal vocals and riffs, I actually find myself enjoying this. It’s terrifying and menacing
and captivating in the way a good horror is - somehow all without falling into the comical or
silly like so much death metal does.

Fucking labyrinthic techdeath. Yes, it's dissonant, atonal, complex, dense af, and uncompromising. Music's not too shabby either, basically a mix of DsO and Ulcerate and Gorguts, yet ultimately being its own monstrous entity.

I hear early Ulcerate. This is an amazing debut. Weird, complex and full of soul. I like the production, the bass is prominent and audible.
