Not lying, to me at least, this is a perfect album from beginning to end. Considering it's an hour and a half of noise music, that should be saying something, but this thing is both head splitting and depressing, bone crushing and melodic. 10/10 material.

Everything related to noise music can be found here. As always with this kind of music, what makes it stand out is how tragically beautiful it sounds. Whether it's the dungeon synthy nods (Myth of Burning Bridges), the Body-like, black metal screams-led power electronics and frenzied harsh noise bits or the surprising electroacoustic (Greenpoint and the massive closer Christ Among the Broken Glass), what remains here is not a particular anger but rather how brutally desperate the whole lot feels. Every harsh track is immediately counterbalanced with long textured ambient passages, showcasing how calm raises out of chaos, and how our deepest regrets always are due to the most monstrous version of ourselves.

Incredible album. Very dense and bizarre. Absolutely needs a re-listen. A noise record
over 90 minutes long sounds like a terrible idea, but it is so diverse and navigates so
many genres that it ends up being never boring and always surprising. From straight up
noise/ hnw on multiple interlude tracks, to Mass Effect synth sountrack overlaid with
noise in the opener and 'A Sorrow With A Braid', to dungeon synth almost on Jester Agony,
to glitchy noise that I hated on the track before last, ending up on an ambient track
that Agalloch could have made for the album finale, the whole thing being sprinkled with
vocals going from whispers to distorted spoken word, to growls and to screams evoking
black metal. Stunning. Jams on 1,4,5,12 and the album conclusion is perfect too; dip in
energy on 6, 10 and 15. 4.2

This ambitious tour de force of gloomy poetic harshness spits out a bountiful and disturbing goulash, and whether it be minus-two-minutes or ten-plus-minutes, each of these sixteen tracks is monstrous. The scale of it is a badge, and also a hindrance - but ultimately, it's just that most of the brain-eraser noise blowouts/muffled spoken word sections don't do a whole lot for me. Call me a square, but I was left wishing for more "Dragonflies to Sew You Up" and "Christ Among the Broken Glass", whose broken drum machine/piano-synth bliss and haunting+rainy acoustics (respectively) feel almost docile compared to the rest of it. Though I do like some torture too, really.
