Iced Earth's early days were only up to par, so the band had no where to go but up at this point. After sever lineup changes and the addition of vocalist Matt Barlow, Iced Earth had finally had an incredible band which could only create the band's best album of their careers. Burnt Offerings still remains to be one of the best power metal releases to ever hit the scene because of guitarist Jon Schaffers incredible songwriting being accompanied by some of Barlows finest moments in the band. This album starts strongly and never really lets up for the entire time. This album also contains the most epic power metal song ever, and possibly the most epic song ever concieved, Dantes Inferno. This sixteen minute masterpiece takes the listener through the circles of hell and leaves you breathless by the end. For those of you who are willing to have an album dominate your ears for weeks, maybe even months to come, buy this.

I was like "damn, this must be one of my favorite power metal albums!...". The song composition is genius with a lot of thrashy moments. In addition, they are also indeed skilled and talented musicians. It?s recommended to all of power metal, thrash, and even any other heavy metal music lover. Get or you will regret!

Consistently dark, brooding and entrancing, Iced Earth hit several right notes between thrash and power metal on Burnt Offerings. When it isn't tingling your expectations like a teasing stripper, it stakes your interest and attention with hardly a second thought.

Jon Schaffer skillfully combines both genres with dark atmospheres to create one of the best Thrash and Power Metal albums ever composed. The album is filled with incredible playing from each member; especially Matt Barlow, then-new vocalist for Iced Earth. Each song is another journey through anger and sadness, with their record company, foolish teenage romance, and religious individuals with "holier-than-thou" attitudes being the band's targets. However, none of these songs (Burnt Offerings, Last December, Brainwashed respectively) come even close to Dante's Inferno, the 16 minute album closer that transcends moods and has each member doing their absolute best work with their skill.

Power metal doesn't get the respect it deserves. It's great when it's actually done right. Iced Earth does power metal the right way. They're not just some cheesy gimmick that will fade out of style in a about a year like some bands*cough*Dragonforce*cough*. Iced Earth is a great band, and this is their magnum opus. One of the finest power metal albums to buy.
