| 1.0 awful | 6604 | May 14th 07 | This album solidifies what I've always been afraid was true of Linkin Park: they have no talent. Not only that, but the talented members they do have (i.e. Chester and Mr. Hahn) have been either downplayed, or in the latter case completely cut out. This album boasts some of the worst guitar work since Rammstein (No More Sorrow) and some of the worst rapping since Vanilla Ice (Hands Held High). Overall, M2M isn't without total merit; there are some good ideas (if you like Fall Out Boy-like pop rock), but when it comes down to it, one thing holds true: a true Linkin Park fan should not tolerate this bile. "We've waited years and years for this shit???" Sadly yes. Dump this junk in the garbage and go listen to some real music. We've had enough sellouts in our generation.

| 1.5 very poor | Kukai | October 23rd 07 | Where to start here. Linkin Park was the reason I got into music, and rock. I still hold Hybrid theory to be a pretty good album, and one of the best nu-metal albums ever made. So why the 1.5 Linkin Park. Simply, this record is absolute garbage. Track after track of amazingly dumb lyrics, boring guitar lyrics and lame teenage angst. It has a few moments that are passable, Mike Shinoda shows that he doesnt suck on "Hands Held High", but the song is brought down a notch when it just doesn't end.
I would die happy if i never heard anything from this album again

I hate politically charged albums. They are so shallow and inconceivably limiting. Don't care if i agree with you, just don't sing about it.

| 1.5 very poor | Bulletproof | November 25th 07 | Wow....I must say this band defiantly bit the dust with this album. This is incomparable to HT, meterora....not so much. HT was defiantly their greatest album. Without Mike this band sucks the big one. Chester's vocals make me want to kill myself. I seriously couldn't get through one song without forcing myself to listen to it.
Now I'm not saying Mike is the best thing since cottage cheese, because hes not. That being said he did bring a element of uniqueness to the band that has been lost since meteora to be honest.
RIP LP

| 1.5 very poor | Matthew Murrell | August 10th 07 | have to say, when i popped this into my CD player i was disappointed. It seems as though Chester has taken over the band, leaving Mr. Hahn and Shinoda completely in the cold. Bar one song this album is terrible, as much as i hate to admit.

| 5.0 classic | ChazyChazZ | May 21st 07 | I totally disagree with the author .. -.-
Sure, the sound is different and at first i wasn't pleased with the end result either. But one thing is sure, and that is that it GROWS on you. I can't get the songs out of my head. The Lyrics, melodies and singing is beautiful and probably the best album to date.
Plus, it shows that they can develop and redefine their own music. Their not scared of chaning what worked in the past... And i like that ..
For all of you who wanted a Hybrid Theory part 3. Too bad ..
This album is definetly worth buying .. : o

| 3.5 great | The JoZ | May 20th 07 | Having heard the album fully through now, I have to say this is a great album for what it is.
I am pleased with this album because not only does it truly show what a diverse group they can be, it contains songs that I can listen to when I am not in the mood to be a metalhead. I've always lamented that my collection was long on heavy riffing and brutality and short on chill out songs, and now I can proudly say that I will include this album in regular rotation. Why? Songs like "Leave Out All The Rest", "Shadow of the Day", "The Little Things Give You Away" are wonderful ballady tracks that are good to relax to. "What I've Done" is a great sing along track, even if overplayed by the radio at some point. "Given Up" and "No More Sorrow", the two hard rocking tracks, have great beats and are high energy songs. No, they aren't as heavy as "One Step Closer" or "Don't Stay", but it doesn't matter. I will admit I was a little disappointed. This is not the hard rock/metalish/rap combination that made me like them in the first place. I think "Bleed It Out" could've had far more guitar in it, and tracks like "Valentine's Day" and "In Between" are forgettable. But whether fans want to admit it or not, Linkin Park has indeed taken a step forward. Kudos to them for making an album that sounds virtually nothing like the previous albums because they wanted to. They've kept me as a fan, even if they aren't as heavy as they could've been

| 5.0 classic | ChaosInACan | March 27th 08 | A lot of people don't like this. Those people probably can't adjust to change. Linkin Park may have changed their style to a more melodic sound, but they haven't totally changed. Songs like No More Sorrow and Given Up are hands-down the bands heaviest songs they have ever done. Some of my fav's are, well, all of them. Leave Out All The Rest, What I've Done, The Little Things Give You Away; Chester's jaw-dropping ballad against President Bush's actions concerning Hurricane Katrina; and No More Sorrow stand out the most as well as Hand's Held High, which is Mike's rap against President Bush and his actions concerning the war in Iraq. One of my favorite "myths" about MTM is that Mr. Hahn is a nowhere to be found on the album. If those people actually listened to it, they would find him because I heard him on just about every song. Especially on "Shadow of the Day" and "In Between". One of the things that stands out the most on MTM is Rob Bourdon. He really steps up with the drums, and in my opinion, shines the most on here. Chester and Mike said before the entire project that this not going to be a trilogy with Hybrid Theory and Meteora. Yeah, I agree with the concenus that Minutes To Midnight isn't close to what Hybrid Theory was, that's a hands-down fact, but it is worthy of the Linkin Park name. It's sad that everyone is flaming this. This is a band that dared to change and stand out from the repetitive sounds that flood music today. I respect the chance. If a band can't change and grow, then we would have the same music over and over again. If you sit down and take in what's on the album, you will be amazed. The only reason so many people are negging it is because it has the Linkin Park name on it. If this was a brand new band's debut album, it would no doubt be nominated at the Grammy's. Open your eyes America. This is the best album of 2007 and one of the best I've heard in a long, long time.

| 0.0 | arigby42 | March 2nd 08 | Incredibly bland, unoriginal, fabricated piece of commercial dreck. The lead signer's claims of pain and struggle are completely fabricated. The music is as generically bad as it gets. A poor piece of music. If you like this crap, you have bad taste in music.

| 2.0 poor | lordkong01 | June 24th 07 | This album isn’t Linkin Park. Rick Rubin, who is known for his Grammy winning work with rap and heavy metal fails at showcasing either one of these genres in this album. Hard thumping beats, relentless rock and anger described Linkin Park's last two albums. Three songs in this collection come close to delivering this, Bleed it Out being the worst. The title is just too corny to be a rock anthem. Unfortunatly it's one of the few tracks that combines rap and rock in the same song which is what the band is known for. Maybe LP is getting old, rich and are even settling down with families that they no longer know what to be angry about. Rick Rubin with his organs, violins and background singers have stripped LP of the raw and gritty sound that made this band famous in the first place. The album cover fits the bands new image and sound; depressing and slow. Dressed in all black the members stand on the beach staring at the water, probably contemplating suicide. The seventh track, Hands Held High only helps enhance the funeral vibe of the art. How symbolic being that this album could be the death of their careers.

personally i love this album and i think it will grow on people. This album has givin them a strong base in which to shed there nu metal stereotyping.
Leave out all the rest is my fav lp song. And im not even a huge linkin park fan im more of a death metal (carcass, Arch enemy, blinded colony, dark tranquilliy, nile) fan so i can say my veiws arnt bias in anyway.

| 1.0 awful | Maximilian Harkness | December 20th 08 | Linkin Park, a band that started out mediocre, finishes off this uninspired effort with a yuck. Boring song structures, poor execution, awful music, just everything that could go wrong did. And to think, they got rid of most of the bad aspects of their music and become even worse.

| 2.0 poor | sharksinyamouth | October 2nd 08 | Linkin Park have abandoned their rap nu metal sound and have come up with an alternative rock album. The only thing is?it?s just not good! It is obvious they just want commercial success and they are getting it. This is by far the worst album that Linkin Park have released (not that their other stuff is good either). This band is way, way, way too overrated.

| 0.0 | Theunbrokenwolf | March 2nd 08 | Some people think they did this to sell out. From my view and many others they just were hitting so good they were put on mainstream radio. The fact is They changed their style a bit. Possibly because they are getting older or they were trying something new. eithier way get The heak over it people. What ive done and Given up show chesters amazing talents as a vocalist. Song such as in peices Shows that Mike can also sing as well. I think some songs should have been here that were not such as Qwerty (Behind your lies). No more sorrow was definatly one of the best songs on the album. Shadow of the day and Valentines day show the bands softer side. People think this makes them mainstream but thats a normal human reaction called ASSUMING. The album was dissapointing on one note. The old linkin park was rarely seen in the album. This just like Reanimation who people put down so often was something linkin park did to do something new. In my opinion it could have been better but it was good.

| 1.5 very poor | VicariousIntent | December 17th 07 | I was way too harsh on this album in my last sound off, and I kind of feel like a douche for that. So it's not the worst record ever, and some songs are okay, like Bleed It Out, Shadow of the Day, etc.
Bottom line though: Linkin Park WAS good and they aren't anymore. It's a shame, but it's true. There's never going to be another "By Myself" or "Points of Authority. There's going to be more "What I've Done" 's. And anything besides that is basically "This album's version of By Myself because it's 'heavy' and there's screaming!"
Linkin Park is a parody of their former selves, giving into mainstream pressures and finally becoming radio rock darlings. And people bought it. So there's probably no going back.

| 4.0 excellent | David James Young | August 19th 07 | With Rick "God" Rubin on their side, Linkin Park created a whole new demon and will arguably be viewed retrospectively as their best work to date in Minutes To Midnight. The old methods are practically gone, but with their departure has come an arrival of a new, professional sound that thrives on hooks and pop-is-not-a-dirty-word energy. Highlights include Bleed It Out, Shadow Of The Day and THE song of their careers, The Little Things Give You Away.

After hearing it a few times and weeding out the garbage it's 1.5. So even after adjusting to the new sound and giving it a chance I thought the album was mediocre or worse. Maybe the change was neccessary and the next album will nail the sound but feel free to skip out on this album.

| 2.0 poor | 117 (David) | May 21st 09 | After listening to some of their old stuff I then realized how much I really hated their new sound.
Their new single is atrocious.
I had no problem with their old sound.
And their new style is here to stay.
No more Shinoda.
Of course there's always gonna be a huge following behind them, but they need to split up, before they shatter what's left of their reputation. It kills me to listen to this anymore.
Linkin Park has screwed us all, and boy did they do a good job of it.

| 3.5 great | Alexander | February 26th 09 | On Minutes to Midnight: Linkin Park tries to be too many things at once. Ditching their overdone nu-metal sound: The band in return has created 12 rather diverse and (slightly) eccentrically-experimental songs, then balance it in a glossy tight radio-ready friendly package. Reading articles before its release certainly seemed interesting on paper. Though truthfully upon its first listens the album sounds like a complete suckfest of typical 21st century radio blandness. Although when given more listens the album overtime grows into something certainly interesting: for better and worse. The diversity and track progression in the album makes the album feel more (dare I say) unique. To be honest maybe if the band didn't overwork the songs so much (to a bland point) the album could have succeeded even more.
In the end Linkin Park thread a fine line between their new weird diverse artsy/slightly-experimental sound and maintaining a tight radio friendly appeal. It's certainly an odd combo that will be misinterpreted from the underground and mainstream listeners. The songs individually aren't super strong (in fact kinda bland) but if the album is listened as a whole project it succeeds (bizarrely) for the most part. Most won't agree-but kudos for Linkin Park for taking on an interesting diverse album that (in some cases) makes M2M stands on its own ground *seeing jaw drops*.

| 2.5 average | YourGuardianAngel | December 17th 08 | Ok, well this album is just ok at best. The flow of the guitar riffs and the vocals are pretty impressive, but don't have the same spark that the older albums had. It almost seemed like they tried to hard this time around. Cursing is one thing that brought this album down (Minutes to Midnight was their first explixit album released). Nobody wants to hear someone scream "f*ck" at thier top of their lungs, its kind of childish. Now some songs such as Bleed it out are instant classics, but look at "What I've Done". When it was released it was played more than 200 times a day, kinda making this album seem overplayed. Finally, when you try to become a more emontial band, screaming and yelling doesn't always work, and Minutes to Midnight proves that easily.

| 2.5 average | JackAttack | November 1st 08 | Well, the music on this CD isn't bad, save for the redundancy of some of the political based lyrics. But now, remember who Linkin Park is? The guys who made Hybrid Theory? The band that was known for writing lyrics that anyone can relate to? This album does NOT carry the torch of the last two, and they've lost a lot of fans by making such a dramatic, forced change. I don't dislike this album for being calm, I dislike this album because they just didn't do as much as they could've with it. Joe barely does anything on this CD. Mike never raps, and he only does significant vocal work in two songs: one of which is a b-side exclusive to iTunes. Chester's voice is just as good as ever, but there aren't enough breakdowns or scream sessions to make it really shine. On the bright side, I am impressed with Brad's guitar work though - he has a few "solos" here and there. Overall, the album is good...but when I think about what it could've been, I can't help be anything but disappointed.

| 0.0 | Conor Mackie | August 8th 08 | A tad under-appreciated by nu-metal fans but to be quite honest this is their worst work yet. Still, it has their best song (What I've Done) as well as their two heaviest (Given Up, No More Sorrow). A little on the soft side for LP even so, but still an enjoyable album. Not an emo album, the lyrical content has pretty much been the same since they're beginning. It would definitely not be the first LP album I would reach for if I ever wanted to listen to some, as I have kind of outgrown them since I was 15.

The better songs off of minutes to midnight are the softer ones and the ones that meet i nthe middle like what ive done and bleed it out. Given up and No more sorrow are more annoying to listen to which came as a shock to me.
However the lyrical writing still stands well for quite a few songs, to my mind comes hands held high ,In between, little things give you away and What Ive done.
The sound lacks alot of the energy they used to have but still is a good album and for a die hard LP fan like myself I still love the album for what it is.

| 0.0 | Maxwell A. Harkness | April 27th 08 | With this album, Linkin Park prove something everyone already knew about them: they have no talent. The one who is close to having talent are completely cut out (Mr. Hahn). The album is dominated by some of the lamest guitar work ever, and some of the worst rapping ever. Despite Shinoda's fantastic work on Fort Minor, he doesn't push an ounce of effort into this uninspired dull album. This is the first time I've ever BEGGED an to be nu-metal. What a pathetic piece of "music".

| 1.5 very poor | AggravatedYeti | April 2nd 08 | This is one of the stupidest albums I've ever heard. Their songwriting has become extremely base, and well, the chug-chug guitar after a while becomes very grinding. Nothing is a worthwhile listen, the only reason this shit floats even a little bit is the slick production, and I'm not exactly sure the Rubin Touch really made this better.

| 2.5 average | rekrdskratcher | December 19th 07 | Ultimately, I don't think we can pass final judgement on this album until we hear the next Linkin Park album (or even Fort Minor, for that matter.) I think some of the stuff that is putting Mike Shinoda in a melodic, soulful position works really well; trying to make Linkin Park into the next U2, however, not so much. They honestly need to self-produce the next CD (where was Rick Rubin on this?), since that seemed to net pretty good results on the original Hybrid Theory EP. (I have mixed feelings on Don Gilmore's role on the first two albums.) If the next CD shows a lot of growth, we may look again at MTM and go, "Oh, okay, I kinda see what was going on there;" if not, LP becomes "the band that that guy from Fort Minor was in."

| 2.0 poor | Derek Marchewka | December 16th 07 | Linkin Park are good for what they offer, well, offered. They had originality and uniqueness that was well liked. But the emotion and talent of each member was lacking tremendously on hybrid theory and meteora. minutes to midnight has a lot of good and bad things. The worst is no more rap- singing, hip hop- metal mixes within their sound.
But with alot of improved musician-ship and better lyrics and emotion lets me give it a thumbs up, but not an enthusiastic one.

| 3.5 great | AmericnZero02 | December 14th 07 | Minutes to Midnight presented a very interesting step in a new direction for Linkin Park’s music. Their long awaited musical progression presented a considerable number more of ballads and fewer hard-rocking headbangers. One major detriments to Minutes to Midnight is the fact that Mike Shinoda and Joe Hahn sat out for the majority of the album. Both of whom were major players in Linkin Parks unique sound, now have been nearly taken out of the picture completely. Minutes to Midnight does have plenty of positive features though. Many of the ballads come off as very heartfelt and Chester Bennington’s vocals are executed better than ever. The improved musicianship on the guitar and bass levels were also welcome features.

| 3.0 good | Aj | December 9th 07 | I'm a HUGE LP fan. They were the reason i love music today, yup, they WERE. This album, while not that bad, does absolutely no justice to the first 2. I was very disappointed when all the hyped was built up for something so great and different. I don't know if LP was trying to make a mainstream album to purposely sell lots of albums (they would of done that regardless) or if they were just trying to show the world what they are capable of. Who knows, like i said, i prefer the first 2 albums ANY DAY.

| 2.5 average | Neongod | May 16th 07 | Linkin Park has grown up. Nothing more, nothing less... Now I’ve read all the reviews and heard all the comments from various people whose taste I truly respect. This was due to the way I could not make up my own mind on how to think when initially hearing this. The Chester / Mike push for solo projects since Meteora and separate roles on this record (Mike being noted as co-producer) really draws the album apart.
Favourite tracks on this album are The Little Things Give You Away, Hands Held High and Bleed It Out. The first being a perfect alternative, political standpoint against the government set to beautiful soft guitar ballad. The second see's mike back in the rapping chair sounding a bit too much like Fort Minor but with enough energy and force that the military beat brings out the strong political undertones. And the third? Well it’s just Linkin Park at their best, one band together with extreme angst and energy. I'm not even going to try to describe my hateful resentment for the rock-radio friendly hit What I've Done...
