josh y u do this me. "The Fiancee" has some good ideas but a majority of the record comes across as
unnecessary noise.

Contemporary Christian Hardcore album. There are about two or three standout tracks though.

The Fiancee is not an easy listen...at all. Which is why the album clocking in less than 30 minutes is more than enough for you to understand and encompass the raw chaotic passion here. Unlike most hardcore bands that have the vocals drown a bit with the guitars and drums. Josh Scogin takes full control of the band with his vocals and the musical ideas are built directly around his powerful vocals and rather blunt lyrics. There are no breaks and the music just simply pounds you all the way through (till the end of course). Credit also goes to Matt Goldman for letting Josh's vocals sit loud and clear above the music and still maintaining a slightly raw feel. While criticized for being too bland it's up to one to recognize that The Chariot's formula separates them from their peers. And from that, overall The Fiancee succeeds-it's just up to the listener to understand the rather gritty feel of the band and album.

First off, this is not metalcore. This is just really crazy hardcore, there's no metallic edge or anything you'd find on an Unearth/Parkway Drive album.
The Chariot remind me of Every Time I Die, if they couldn't control their feedback, or actually scream in anything resembling a tasteful form. The southern rock sound that was popular back when also links them to ETID, but pairs riffing with dissonant chord shrieks.
I can almost excuse their non-use of structure, because I liken the progression of the album to someone telling a story; there's no choruses in stories. What this story was trying to tell, I've no idea. The screams are unintelligible, and my concentration was lost sorting through the mashup of guitars.
This is actually one of the few albums that's given me a headache. In fact, it actually started to hurt my eyes after a while (no clue on how that works). I'm no stranger to this sort of music, but this goes over the line.
The only positive thing I can say about this album is it definitely has that old southern/western feel to it. Listening to the album is sort of like stepping on a rusty nail, or getting squeezed by a pair of spurs.

The only thing worse than run of the mill metalcore is run of the mill metalcore that tries to be "mathematic" or "technical". There is nothing redeemable about this album; the band can't even brag about recording live without breaks like they did on their debut. Stay clear of The Fiancee.
