A great album for me. I was waiting since I bought With Teeth for this. But it has no comparison whatsoever. But thats what I love about it. Another masterpiece by Reznor. The best songs in my opinion are "The Good Soldier" "Capital G" "The Great Destroyer" and "In This Twilight". The instumental tracks are as haunting as they are beautiful.

From the get-go, Year Zero is a noisy ride. There are instances where static mimics Trent Reznor's vocals, which are on top form. The line is blurred between guitar and synth in a beautiful fury. An underlying concept, a dystopian future of fifteen years from now, is told lyrically from different viewpoints, providing many facets to this story, and even more wonderful is how the music conforms to each persona.

After the turn of the millennium, Trent Reznor had seemed to have lost his niche. With Teeth was a terribly lazy effort, and displayed the one thing I hate about Nine Inch Nails- fun. Luckily, Trent has returned with another brooding concept with quality that isn't far off from The Downward Spiral. The album is not as much a collection of songs, but a vehicle for his tale of paranoia and corruption. The sound is heavily laden with industrial synth that are the most far gone of his career, but laced with the serene emotion and signature NIN feel that we've come to love. Some might find that the individual songs aren't musical enough, and although that is warranted, the concept that shines through them makes the lack of musicality all the more appropriate. Year Zero displays Reznor's terrific ability to captivate an audience, his well-crafted concept, backed by his always brilliant lyrics, return him to the format of albums that he does best, as well as to the incredible musician that he is hailed for.

I have listened to this album a few times now, & there is only 2 words to sum this album up... IT SUCKS
Survivalism was the reason I got it, however I was heavily disappointed by what the rest of the album had to offer... there was no real sense of ability or any form of good music in most of the songs
NIN are overrated, pure & simple. If they can make only a few good tracks PER ALBUM that actually are worth listening to, they don't deserve the praise they get

I just smoked a joint and listened to this album for the first time. Definetly a great piece of work, probably his best album since downward spiral. Vessel and god given blow me away every time i listen to them

musically speaking, the best NiN album since downward spiral. the sound is aggressive but clean, hard and driving but not without pacing or moderation. every track is a winner and i wouldn't conceive of hitting the skip button once. the album is cohesive and flows well, but is also accessible and has some songs that already stand out as possible singles.
the album is a concept album, as is readily apparent from the promo/insert material as well as the track titles and lyrics. the vision of a dystopian future U.S presented by Trent is compelling and unsettling. Despite falling within the already heavily cliched grounds of the Orwellian police state, the critique offered by NiN on Year Zero is both particularly relevant and delivered with devastating precision and virtuosity.

Listening to the stream for the second time now and I'm very impressed. The concept itself is interesting and the whole album has a cohesive sound. Very very noisy, yet melodic, great pounding bass and pulsating rhythms. Like the someone below said, this is sex music, it's both dirty and beautiful. Inaccessible and accessible at the same time.
I like how most of the songs end with long musical interludes which expand on the melodies Trent sings. And his singing, wow, I say this the best his voice has ever sounded, and it doesn't overshadow the music either.
It's hard to choose a highlight with an album as solid as this. This album is TIGHT yet expansive, you hear something new with repeat listens. This is Trent at the very top of his game. I can't wait to purchase this album and see what other goodies the album sleeve contains.

Basically everything a great Industrial album should be; abrupt synth, smoky monologues, and an overall mechanical feel to it. Not surprising seeing as this is Trent Reznor we're talking about... 4.3/5

Trent Reznor has done more than enough to prove that he's a talented individual, and not just under the alias of Nine Inch Nails. However, for all of Year Zero's industrial elements, distortion and focus on its themes, there's a distinct lack of interest to find. None of the concepts feel like they're truly pushed forward in the music and the album's best moment comes from the instrumental "Another Version of the Truth." The entire album is far above the negligible mark, but it isn't nearly compelling enough to elevate it beyond fair remarks.

Is this a joke? seriously, I am not kidding, is this album seriously a joke? Or does Trent Reznor hate his fans now? this is some of the dullest music I have ever heard, all the electronic effects sound so stale, the singing, the lyrics, everything is colorless and pedestrain. There are no highlights, and I have found every NIN album until this average at worst. What a horrid album!

This is one of the bestest cds I'v ever heard and probolly his best and the disk well it changes colour black and with heat its white and you can call this number and it says cool things so buy it.

This is the best Nine Inch Nails CD ever. The Downward Spiral was amazing, but every song is fantastic and gets you pumped up. The sound is not easily accessible with it's heavy techno beats, but that still doesn't take away this CD's superb sound.

An extremely good album that really submerges you in its dark, but not too far off vision of Earth. The why the lyrics flow, especially at the end really are convincing and seem like they are the ideas and feelings of the common man. I really like what NIN did with electronics and lyrics alike. Very rich and somewhat reminescient of "The Wall" from Pink Floyd.

Absolute genius! Trent Reznor never disappoints. Year Zero is an absolute masterpiece, beginning to end. Trent continues to produce powerful works of art that kick the music world right in the chest. It the best feeling in the world to be able to trust in an artist, and know that each and every release is nothing short of genius. It is evident, the minute you listen to Year Zero, that the amount of time, effort and heart that went into it, was enormous. Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails always add a fresh, new, unique and powerful element to today's music. While there are some quality artists out there, there is also a large quantity of recycled crap. You never know what you are going to get, from one cd to the next. With Trent Reznor, you do know. You know you are going to get a quality, mind blowing work of art. Thank you Trent and please don't ever stop.

I like this album. It's very beat driven and a lot more industrial than most of their albums. It is a mix of sounds between that of Pretty Hate Machine and the Fragile. Very well put together.

This is NiN at it's best. Trent hasn't reached this level of melody or noise for quite some time. The album is VERY listenable from beginning to end for NiN fans and casual listeners alike, even. HIGHLY recommended for all. NiN - Year Zero; buy it.

i have heard the album twice now, and without a doubt, this is the second best NIN cd to date. VERY bass heavy, VERY noisy, VERY melodic, the entire album is sex music, you can make love to all the songs. this cd is amazing.
