This is pure metal right here. Unbelievably aggressive and more technical than the manual to a super computer, all with appropriately muddy production that actually enhances the experience rather than detracts from it. The holy grail of brutal death metal, and one of my top 20 albums ever.
Truly adventurous in its brutality, this album essentially began the brutal death metal genre. The drums are unrelenting, the guitar is devastating, the bass is loud and heavy and the vocals are simply phenomenal. Nothing before had even attempted to be this thick and heavy, and nothing since has really exceeded it.
Few other albums could ever hope to be quite as good as this one. This mixes technicality, brutality, and even a dash of melody perfectly into one supreme package. The riffing is as tight as could be asked for, the drumming is 100% incredible and the vocals are as intense as it gets. The bass is inaudible but who gives a shit, this album rules.
Just got into Suffocation which is a godsend because I needed another band to remind me why 80's - early
90's death metal is the greatest genre ever. And this record does not let you forget that, like I said, this record
is a godsend to death metal fans.
Suffocation's debut full length. This album is groundbreaking because the mix of technicality and brutality go together well and produce catchy songs. Effigy of the Forgotten has gone onto inspire many bands as well as a genre of death metal(brutal death metal).
