This album is very inspiring to me as a musician, how the instruments are played perfectly, as if all of them are godly at there instrument. The funky-ness is throughout the album, Favorite tracks: Tommy the Cat, Eleven, Pretty much all of them actually.

I always liked Primus because of their bizarre theme, differentiated sonority and absurd videos. The music and instrumental quality of Les Claypool are not far behind, as perhaps this is the best bass player i've ever had the pleasure of listening to in life. "Sailing the Seas of Cheese" is the cherry on the cake for all fans of a style as peculiar as Funk Metal, containing many classics and showing to the world that the bizarre has room in the mainstream.

The madness carries on to the second album, where Claypool and his friends take us on a journey of funk mixed with metal, one hell of a trip. Jerry was a race car driver and Tommy the cat are the standoffs for this one, with their brilliant bass-line.

Primus thrives on funky basslines and a strong sense of irony, and the marriage of these two things, what with Les Claypool's impeccable bass chops and dark, angered lyrics masked by a played-up redneck voice, is what made Frizzle Fry an excellent album. It's also what makes their second record, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, a good one, despite a few flaws its predecessor didn't have. This works on tracks like "Jerry Was A Racecar Driver", "Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers", and "Fish On", all using strange bass and sometimes even eerie guitar, as well as Tim Alexander's fluid drumming, to create some excellent tracks. Sometimes, though, the tracks either go nowhere ("Sathington Waltz") or are frankly kind of obnoxious ("Tommy The Cat"). It also ends with a relative dud, with a coda of "Here Come The Bastards", not a particularly great song, finishing the record off. All this said, the good most certainly outweighs the bad on this record, and it is still a fun album altogether.

If you're new to Primus, then this album will probably agonize you to the point of a mental
breakdown, as the music here is quite unnerving and extremely weird ("Is it Luck" is fucking
ridiculous to say the least). Honestly, I don't even know how to describe this album at all;
to me at least, they sound like a more musical version of The Residents, of course with the
addition of Les Claypool. The funky, snazzy basslines here make this album a hell of a lot
more accessible for the general public, though - "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" and "Here
Comes the Bastards" are good examples of more settling tracks for a baby face. As a whole
though, there's a steep listening curve to this record, but you'll be rewarded in the end..
- let's just go with that.

Here come the bastards in this outrageously memorable album, as they sail the seas of cheese and suck harder than any band that has been established before the three of them. Primus are no strangers to the realm of eccentricities, with Les Claypool's slapping bass lines ever so prominent in the mix while Ler Lalonde and Tim Alexander deliver outlandishly great riffage and eargasmic cymbals respectively. Sailing the Seas of Cheese' interludes occasionally halt what was otherwise the album's superb flow, but on their own, these tracks are really nothing to fuss about.

Jerry Was A Race Car Driver is a clear standout. Tommy the Cat is really good too. It seems quite unnecessary to have three interludes on this album, but that doesn't detract from it too much. Overall, this is a pretty cool album. Primus is a weird fucking band.

A sound that merges Rush and The Minutemen and filters it through demented, corny 90's cartoon humor and that certain type of metal/funk that everyone heard alot more of later in the decade. The basswork is obviously stand out, but really what makes this solid is all of the overall instrumentation, very technical and unique.

While there's interesting material on Sailing the Seas of Cheese, as a whole this album lacks cohesion and feels like a directionless collection of tracks. That's not to say that this is bad, there are some sweet tracks for sure, but it could've been much better.
