Despite its beautifully eerie backdrop, "Sunser Mission" presents a version of over-simplified and directionless jazz that can become interesting at times, but makes it hard to enjoy the whole album. The ambient stylings could have added a new dimension to the sound of they were applied more tactfully. Overall, this release is more meandering than accomplishing of anything, and it feels poorly executed at most times because of that. But, the times that it works, there are really some nice smooth jazz compositions in here.
The fact that this is my go to album when reading creepypasta and just watching the rain says something in itself. The album is dark, dreary, and to be quite honest eerie without ever being too overt about. Easily my favorite "dark jazz" album of all time.
