This album is what kick-started my real interest in Experimental Electronica, and was a great launching pad for my interest in artists like Aphex Twin and Massive Attack. Boards of Canada have a real knack for creating a unique sonic environment; in particular they find interesting ways to inject a certain warmth into a purely electronic sound. This is mostly evident in highlight tracks "Roygbiv" and "An Eagle In Your Mind", and more esoteric, short tracks like "The Color Of The Fire" and "Bocuma". Their textural landscaping and excellent use of sampling and fresh, clever beats is what keeps me coming back for more, and part of what makes this an essential Electronica masterpiece. If you're a fan of Electronic music, you owe it to yourself to listen to this. Even if you're not, this gem of an album and some quality time with it has a good chance of converting you.
Oh, and the bass riff in "Aquarius" owns. So does the mixed vocal sampling. ORANGE.

This is the ideal electronica album to chill to. The relaxed beats and swirling keyboard effects fit together perfectly creating an extremely atmospheric and lazy atmosphere. At first the songs seem way to long and repetitive but the songs change so subtly and quick that it's difficult to even notice. With a good set of headphones this album will put you in a trance for a good hour or so, although the music isn't complex or challenging it sure is hypnotic.

a very "chill" album. The overall lack of vocals or anything distracting I see this as a great album to go to if looking for something to study to. Although fairly monotonous, it isn't boring like I sort of expected it to be; it has enough variation in it to keep me interested, but not distract me. I also assume that this is probably one of those albums you probably have to be tripping balls while listening to to fully appreciate. 4.0/5

Music Has The Right To Children was the first electronica record i ever heard. I didnt know what to expect but i was instantly drawn in by the layered atmospheres and woozy drum loops. Every song is perfect, a piece to the big picture this album creates. The use of sampling on this record are some of the most creative ive ever heard, just adding to the plethora of amazing textures that are created. A true masterpiece of electronic music, Music Has The Right To Children will always be one of my favorite albums

Describing a song is fine enough and talking about why you like it is even better but describing how a song, even an entire album, makes you feel is a different story altogether.
For most albums at least.
'Music has the right to children' is all about the effect that it has on, for lack of a better term, the soul. It attacks you with the exaggerated beats and frenetic vocal samples of Telephasic Workshop, creating not only a song but a paranoid delusion whilst also wrapping itself around your head with the creamy ambience of Wildlife Analysis and Turqoise Hexagon Sun, like dreams that you can relive over and over.
'Music has...' ultimately makes you feel as if you are the only person on the planet even if you're surrounded by activity. Your eyes lose focus your mind wonders and your muscles relax. The only problem with the album is that 18 songs later the trance is over.

I decided to check this out after seeing how poular theya re here on sputnik but I must say that Iam very disappointed with this album. Full of boring blips and beeps, I found myself frustrated and wanting a whole lot more.

As the title may show, this album's main influence or stance point or whatever you may call it is in Childhood. You probably already knew it and could be wondering 'why the hell do I want to listen to a band that doesn't use real instruments (oh ye of little faith wait for Campfire Headphase) because I listen to Husker Du (Which is a good thing) and listen to bands with real instruments and not electronics'. I was one of those kids so it's okay. This album taught me a few things. 1.) Just because bands do use real instruments it doesn't mean it's good (Im looking at every other band that's selling albums right now) and 2.) If it's brilliantly emotive music that's instantly nostalgic, mysterious and all around perfect, who cares what they used to make it. If Modest Mouse used toy pianos all of you little cuties that bought "We Were Dead..." would still gush I know you would!

What can I say about this album? A better question to ask is what can I not say about this album? When I listen to music and decide whether it is any good or not, I tend to look first at the overall texture and atmosphere of the music; the overall quality of the music. Music Has the Right to Children is probably my favorite album of all time because it possesses these qualities many times over. It fills the listeners ears and brain with sounds that evoke a child-like nostalgia, love, mystery, and awe. Every sound is a soundtrack of its own kind. Each piece forms together to make a breath-taking cohesion of perfected sound.
