Sodom really hit the thrash scene with their very unique second album to come out in 1987, Persecution Mania. This album took unfairly long to grow on me, but as now this is simply awesome! The crew here was:
Tom Angelripper: Vocals, Bass Chris Witchhunter: Drums Frank Blackfire: Guitars
+ The atmosphere is VERY cruel and evil here, which is great
+ Angelripper's vocals are nearly perfect for this type of music
+ Blackfire's guitar playing is great, especially the solos
+ No song is bad
+ The overall sound pleases the music excellently
+ The production, heavy and evil enough but not too good and typical like most of new metal
+ The album cover is just awesome!
- The production could still be better, mainly the overall loudness and drums
- Some people might not like the fairly simplistic music
- The drumming isn't bad, but still nothing special there really
Best tracks:Nuclear Winter, Persecution Mania, Procession to Golgatha, Christ Passion
NOTE: If you have the issue with bonus tracks, My Atonement is an awesome song.
Overall:Persecution Mania is definitely one of the very best Sodom LPs with Agent Orange (1989) and M-16 (2001), if not THE best. Recommended to almost all thrashers. 4.5/5!
A true Thrash masterpiece!! I simply cant get over how good this album is. Perfect 5. This is the Rolls-Royce of 80's Thrash Metal and the peak of Sodom's career. Arguably their best effort next to Agent Orange. All their albums are insane and freakin' rule but this is just...wow!
