Did not hook me like their last album, and lacks in 'big' songs. But it makes up for that with brilliant ambient sounds. They have also expanded their vocals. This album seems more like a mix of songs from the five previous albums - and I'm fine with that. Not bad at all.

After several more listens I'm upping my rating, the quality of the songs come through on repeated listens and the album is just REALLY good.The only down point is the album does not flow as well and is not as coherent as a single piece of music like Hide and Seek was but the individual songs on this are stronger than Hide and Seek.If TBM make an Album with strong individual songs like Superstition and have it flow as well as Hide and Seek they will create a masterpeiece.

I'm no Bloc, but it's TBM so the great synth work gets a higher rating for me automatically. Am I the only one who picked up the similarity to a few other famous songs? Rain (Duran Duran - Come Undone), Divide (Gotye - Someone that I used to know), Superstition (Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want to Have Fun)

I admit that I was upset about the abrupt change that came with the release of Pins and Needles. The album was slick, huge, and the emphasis was placed on making infectiously catchy songs that contained little of the dark atmosphere or electronics that were featured throughout the earlier releases. The album eventually grew on me and it is now my favorite. I say this because Superstition tries to retain the slick, hook-oriented, formula of Pins and Needles while restoring the underlying darkness and cold synth sounds of Violet. I’d say that they basically achieve their goal; although the emphasis is still more on the Pins and Needles side. If there is an issue, it’s that the album probably doesn’t hit any of those elements as well as the releases that originally featured them. On the other hand, it’s easily the best since Pins and Needles, and those that really missed the older style might even call this the best since Walking With Strangers or Violet. No matter what, though, this is definitely an excellent return to form after the disappointing Hide and Seek.

Another fine set of TBM songs. The only thing is... WHY does Oceania sound like that Sky Ferreira song about 24 hours?!

With this release they coalesced all the variations in their sound throughout the years into one album. It is the culmination of everything they've ever done and really focused on the synths over the actual instruments. But in another sense it reminds me a lot of Violet. It's definitely more "retro" sounding than their recent releases.rThe only noticeable downside is that it is missing any real heavy hitting tracks, which are generally my favorites. This album still drips with atmosphere, though.rI think it'll be a grower. I'll probably rate it higher once I hear the songs performed live.

some tracks have grown on me, like Divide, Rain, and Beyond, which are great, all around, but the rest of the album is just underwhelming, compared to past TBM stuff. the album is never outright bad, but it's consistently disappointing. it's just a huge step down, and there's no denying that.
