The Exploited's first full length album Punks Not Dead is one of the most famous punk albums to come out of the UK in the 1980's and for good reason. Not only did the album spark the UK82 punk wave, but it also had more energy and punk spirit than almost any album to come out before or after it.
The album begins with a recording of a crowd cheering for the Exploited and lead singer Wattie Buchan describing, in his heavy scottish accent, that the "stupid cunts" in the papers are saying that punk is dead, then he screams "PUNKS NOT DEAD" and menacing drums and a surprisingly good bassline lead the album off on an unforgetable start.
The two Songs that follow the first song are just as good if not better. The Second song is a cover of Puncture's song Mucky Pup. Mucky Pup is a fast paced song about a punk's little fetishes, including a fixation on female news anchor angela Rippon's tits and how he picks his nose (now what's more punk that).

This band is way overrated in the scheme of great UK hardcore punk bands. When one thinks about great bands such as GBH, Varukers, and Discharge, it is hard to like The Exploited more than said groups because of a sound that is, while catchy and easy to sing-a-long to, repetitive and quickly becomes dull. And considering their atrocious and cheesy new material, they're now nothing more than a T-shirt band.
