| 3.5 great | Waior | May 20th 09 | Finding Anberlin on a creative high, Cities is comfortably precise and exacting. The band's unique combination of soaring vocal melodies, engaging riffs and clever songwriting make up the bulk of what is one of the most stylistically diverse and experimental albums in their niche. But despite Cities tugging on all of the right heartstrings, a cluster of lackluster tracks keep it from being the masterpiece Anberlin record we'd all pretend it is.

| 4.5 superb | Joe Shadduck | July 15th 07 | Accessibility is far from a rare commodity, but not every album needs to be a Blackwater Park or a 2112. Sometimes it's the simple, accessible things that make a difference, and so it is with Anberlin's modern classic "Cities". This album is absolutely gripping from beginning to end, while balancing on that knife's edge between forgettably simple and too complex for the masses. I love nearly every note of this record, and highly reccomend it to anyone and everyone.

| 4.5 superb | Davey Boy STAFF | October 1st 09 | The first 3/4 of Anberlin's 3rd LP 'Cities' consolidates on its predecessor's excellence; up-tempo catchy rock highlighted by Stephen Christian's exceptional vocals & interesting lyrics. There is also the majestic acoustic ballad 'The Unwinding Cable Car', as well as an infusion of occasional synths. The final 3 tracks however, lift the album to a brilliance that one could never have imagined. First it is the gorgeous 'Inevitable', then the amazing 'Dismantle. Repair.', and finally, the breathtaking choir-assisted '(*Fin)' closes things off on the highest of highs and what may be the song of 2007. Wow... Just wow! Recommended Tracks: (*Fin), The Unwinding Cable Car, Dismantle. Repair., Godspeed & Inevitable.

| 4.5 superb | Ryan Cleary | August 17th 08 | By far one of the best albums of all time that I have had the fortune to listen to. A beautiful work all the way through, Anberlin creates a style of music that I find it difficult to place into a genre, and creates epic atmospheres such as seen on Fin. A classic in more ways than one.

| 4.5 superb | Andrew Walker | October 16th 12 | There's always something to be admired in a consistent band. Unless, of course, they're consistently bad. But that's not what Anberlin is, at all. With the recent release of their latest album, Vital, it made me go back and listen to everything they released again. They really knew what they were doing on every single album. Every single one was excellent. But then there are the ones like Cities (and I'm sure Vital will become this way after a couple more listens). The albums that, although don't break from the consistency the band worked so hard to achieve year after year, but only improves on it, making it not only an incredibly solid album, but and album that can be enjoyed for hours on end without break. From start to finish, Cities is wonderful. The chanting section in the middle of (Fin) is one of the most beautiful and spine chilling moments I've ever experienced in a song.

| 3.0 good | Aaron LaClair | February 6th 13 | Really mediocre, which is disappointing due to the high amount of praise it's received. There are several standout tracks, but they are just that, standout tracks sprawled out between very uninteresting ones, the vocals are very good, but the band really fails at creating anything that hasn't been done before by hundreds of other bands

| 5.0 classic | jimmy24795 | May 12th 12 | The closest thing to a perfect album. Once you get past the unnecessary intro track, Cities is a captivating, thought provoking journey, weaving through lost loves, cherished memories of youth, and despair and wrong in this world. The album is summarised and magnified by the closer *fin, which is an epic track, with a highlight of Stephen Christian improvising the closing, and haunting lyrics.

| 5.0 classic | TheGardener | February 29th 12 | This piece of music is sometimes uplifting, sometimes heart-wrenching but always beautiful. It's hard to find a mood in which I don't want to listen to this.

| 3.0 good | Mchailas | December 11th 11 | Anberlin featuring redundant lyrics, dull structures, songs that have remarkably little to offer, ubiquitous filler, and surprisingly, several moments of brilliance. (*Fin) is the perfect closer and deserves a 4.5 however the album fails to build to this point. It's a shame, I wanted to like this album.

| 3.5 great | thejon93rd | August 12th 11 | With a strong handful of amazing songs, the album sometimes fails to be consistent in over-experimenting and fear of exploring their well-written lyrics further. Either way, Cities is a great album that closes on a powerful three-song home run.

| 5.0 classic | Manon | July 25th 10 | Every song on this album has the best written lyrics I've ever come across. Stephen's voice is different from the other mainstream rock bands, and that makes Anberlin a wonderful band. Cities takes them to a whole new level, they show how much they have matured in comparison to Never Take Friendship Personal and Blueprints for the Black Market. They have grown musically and even lyrically, even though Stephen's songwriting is flawless on every album. My favorite Anberlin album. I don't think any album will ever top this one.

| 4.0 excellent | doug | June 16th 09 | Cities was the first Anberlin album I listened to, and I wish I hadn't. Mainly because they will have to write something incomprehendably good to better Cities. Every song is gripping and all build into the beautiful closer, (*fin). A highly recommended album.

| 4.5 superb | AmericnZero02 | December 13th 07 | A great follow up to Never Take Friendship Personal. With Cities, Anberlin performs a number of rock ballads that let Stephen Christian?s silky voice show its full potential. While the heavier tracks on here such as "Godspeed" and "A Whisper & a Clamor" Anberlin show that they can write tracks that perfectly fit the bands niche. The highlights of the album are vocal classic "The Unwinding Cable Car" and the epic "(*Fin)". The only new element of Anberlin?s music that hurts Cities is the consistent use of synthesizers.

| 5.0 classic | soundslikeseth | July 27th 07 | Anberlin shows maturity on "Cities" with deeper lyrics and a better crunch in the music without moving too far away from their original Anberlin sound. They lyrics show great meaning. Mostly on depression and seeking help. Their lyrics dig deep and make you think and although their songs aren't as catchy on this release as they were on their last, they still keep you listening. This is a great album for anyone who likes listening to rock music, especially Anberlin.
