Technicality has become an obsession for this band. To an extent that degrades the quality of their music. For the first EP, this was ok, but by now, I'm sick of hearing the same song over and over again. As Adam Thomas said on his review for 'Dystopia' "Its almost as though sometime in between writing the tweedle-tweedle-tweedle and the dun-dun-dun they forgot that they were supposed to be writing actual songs." Sums it up perfectly for me!
Beneath the Massacre has gotten a very cold reception, primarily for their use of breakdowns. If you haven't heard BTM, and you don't like breakdowns, don't listen to them. On the other hand, if you like hardcore/metalcore and you don't like death metal, it's definitely not for you. Even if you fall somewhere in the middle like me, the technicality and speed can be very overwhelming. I didn't know what to think the first time I hear Mechanics of Dysfunction, I didn't like it. I couldn't wrap my head around it. It was seemingly a fast and heavy death metal noisecore. It IS however an acquired taste. If you're a fan of the deathcore genre, which this cannot be truly classified as, or if you like technical deathcore, give it a week of straight listen and there's a chance you might like it as much as me.
This album, unlike there EP, is very repetitive. Grind core from front to back with no breaks. A systems failure is a standout but other than that i would rather listen to their EP
