I think my balls are crying since the moment I started listening to the stream.. this is just eerily gorgeous avantgarde jazzy psychedelic doom rock-ish I DON'T KNOW DON'T CARE BUT STILL SO FUCKING GREAT genre of a music.. it crushes your heart and soul.. oh my

Coffins on Io is one of my favourite albums. The atmosphere evoked is so effective-- exactly the retro '80's sci-fi vibe (a la Blade Runner) that Driver was going for-- and the songwriting is so interesting that I can't give it any lower than a 5. Though Kayo Dot has been a notoriously inconsistent group, I'm pleased to report that Coffins on Io is fantastic.

That bass tone tho. Take your spacecar, wander through the dark and glowing LA night, put this on and you'll go into a surreal nocturnal journey. "Mortality of Doves" might well be one of their best tracks.

Best opener since "Anemone", in my opinion. Also, everyone should realize that "Longtime Disturbance" uses parts from Driver's old song, "The Second Sight". It's awesome that it was resurrected in some way.

Simply one of the best Kayo Dot albums we've heard so far; Driver has perfected his compositional skills and has found a way to remain entirely musically consistent whilst still implementing some very odd passages. This album is a triumph of atmosphere; like Choirs of the Eye, it seems that Driver and co. wanted to focus primarily on conveying emotion through sound to tell a story of murder, post-apocalypse, and the underlying beauty of alienation. Five stars easy.
