The stagnant and sterile production is hard for "Black and Blue" to overcome. Although 'Hot Stuff', 'Hand of Fate' and 'Fool to Cry' survived the transitional year that was 1976, they are badly let down by 'Cherry Oh Baby', 'Memory Motel' and 'Melody' which are as bored and by-the-numbers as anything the Stones had done to that point.

The worst Stones album from the 70s. The best moments are "Hand Of Fate" and "Hey Negrita," arguably "Fool To Cry,"
and the other songs are uninspired and generic (by their standards). "Hot Stuff" also opens with one of the worst guitar
tones of all time. Yes, they struggled to get back on their feet again without Mick Taylor!

Replacement guitarists with riffs a plenty, stylistic variation, utilization of repetition, no filler - definitely the spark the Stones' needed.

"Black & Blue" is an album that is unfamiliar to most rock fans for a reason. It is not good. There are 8 songs all almost longer than 4 min. of terrible. "Memory Motel" is a good song though. As an album it is very bad.

I think Black And Blue is the most underrated album of The Rolling Stones. There´s a couple of true classics, for example songs like; Memory Motel, Melody and Fool To Cry. On my opinion there´s only one really weak track and that is Hey Negrita. I really like the atmosphere of this album and you should give it a change dispite of it's bad reputation.
