So basically everyone's fears were justified. I liked A Sense of Purpose and Soundtrack to Your Escape but this is just a shit sandwich without any bread.
EDIT: Eh upon further listens it actually has a few standouts, i.e. 'With Eyes Wide Open', 'In Plain View', and the title-track being the best of the bunch. Still mostly a shit sandwich but I'll give it the bread.

kinda catchy and well-writtenrThrough Oblivion is so beautiful that I cried the first time I heard itrAnders' performance is very unique, it's a good thing that he isn't emulating anyone, he's doing his own style. rEven though they're goin for a softer sound you can hear melodeath riffs and they're kinda good, sometimes they're too low in the mix (e.g Through Oblivion) but other than that this a very good record.

One hell of a mess of an album, it feels like it was written overnight. The sound production is top notch, but the content lacks of character and cohesion. Instead of being a well structured mosaic of the styles adopted herein - metalcore, modern metal, emo, goth etc - the album is merely an amorphous pulp of the above. If I was to reference a really good album in a similar vein, my pick would be the recent Through Our Darkest Days album from Mercenary.

Its not melodeath, or heavy In Flames, but it is still In Flames. The biggest problem with the album is the often uninteresting verses, which have been taken over by the mainstream sound, but the songs are still very well-written and polished. With Eyes Wide Open is a standout for me. Also, I'm feeling like this album is gonna grow bigtime on me given that I hated the singles at first, but I kinda dig them now. Except Rusted Nail's verses blow dick. But if you can get over the fact that the band your listening to released Colony back in the day, then its still a good album.

Another steep decline for In Flames. I don't even know what they are doing anymore. While I don't find this as completely wretched as ASOP, it's still pretty poor. Time to wait another few years to see if they do something good.rNow if you will excuse me, I'm going to go listen to Clayman.

Good lord, I thought that Metalsucks were joking about a boringness and hollowness of
this one, but it's true. This actually happened. Unlike The Hunting Party by Linkin
Park, that at least had redeeming qualities like good vocals, good drumplay and change
of direction, Siren Charms doesn't even have that.
Anders sounds so awful that I still can't believe that he used to sing and scream on
pre-Clayman albums, Clayman and Come Clarity. The instrumentals here are bland.
This is, so far, the worst In Flames album I've ever heard. Reroute To Remain was
average, Soundtrack To Your Escape was bad, same goes for A Sense Of Purpose and Sounds
Of A Playground Fading. But this is the new low for the band and for Anders himself. The
only thing that keeps me from giving this a 1/5 is because of some normal songwriting.
This album leaves me with a great fear that In Flames will never do not only their
actually REAL melodeath album, but also just a good album, like Come Clarity. rR.I.P In
Flames (1990-2014).

Poor vocals that have no energy, generally boring tracks that fail to take your attention rand this is just another step for the band in making radio friendly music. Some of the rguitar work is enjoyable, but it quickly gets pushed back by the vocals due to the rmixing. In conclusion, a poor album with awful vocals and some good guitar parts.

If you asked me prior to the release if it would make sense for In Flames to tour with Papa Roach I would've laughed in your face. But after listening to the whole album (it's up for streamz on Metalhammer), it makes sense. This is a Hard Rock record, and In Flames is now a Hard Rock band. And not one of the worst at that.

(10/18/18): It's easy to debate as to whether Reroute to Remain or Soundtrack to Your Escape marked the beginning of the end for In Flames. Personally both records were swell enough, though I can understand some of the detractors' complaints. An album like Siren Charms, however, is quite inexcusable; doubly so considering it was released this late into an influential Swedish metal troupe's career. Similar to the two full-lengths circling it, IF's eleventh LP contains zero traces of melodeath, instead harboring a much more hook-laden alt-metal style that's sure to appease the naive public. 2011's Sounds of a Playground Fading was actually a nice attempt at this musical direction, even without Jesper's presence, and yet Siren Charms strikes out more often than it hits. Between this one and the succeeding Battles, the former is slightly less embarrassing. Of course, that's being damned by faint praise! Irresistibly catchy at times, sinister throughout the 44-minute duration... not in a good way.

I will finally admit that this band has released a shit album. Playground was the beginning but luckily it had strong songwriting and sweet guitar solos to back it up but this is just a mess. It's like the worst of Soundtrack and Sense of Purpose collided with the last album to create this mess.rAnders has taken over the band. I was never against their pop-rock sound just as long as it sounded good but here nothing seems to gel, even the massive hooks they were getting better at are lacking here. rThere are no good songs, just good parts of songs.rIn Flames I one hope to trust again.

Usually it feels soulless. It'll have that mainstream feel to it. Particularly, I find that most prevalent the most in 'Everything's Gone' and 'When the World Explodes'. 'Siren Charms' probably would be my favorite of the songs.

I feel like this album is going to get a lot more hate than it deserves. Sure, it's far from the best in flames album
but it isn't terrible. It is fairly uninteresting a lot of the time but there are some enjoyable aspects. Anders vocals
(particularly his singing) also sound better on this album than they have done on previous in flames albums. It is
definitely a take on a more mainstream sound, but it's still fairly decent as an album. Getting in before the in
flames fanboys start bitching about this.

Although I am a huge fan of In Flames' post-00s work, this is probably one of the worst albums I've ever listened. Almost all songs were unbearable apart from "With Eyes Wide Open" and "In Plain View" which were simply decent. This album makes me wonder where the fuck this band is heading to.

I'm beginning to find it harder and harder to find anything enjoyable in In Flames sound. On the past couple of releases there was always a song or two (Ropes, Alias, Where the Dead Ships Dwell) that stood out as redeemable but on this uninspired mess, there's not much. Parts of songs stick out, like the clean guitar in the intro of Rusted Nail and a memorable solo every now and then. Other than that though, all these songs are a variation of the same alternative metal template with an even more sub par singer than usual. Seriously Ander's performance is one for the history books.

Not nearly as bad as these fuckers are saying. It's clearly not great, but it's the logical follow up to Sounds of a Playground Fading. Everyone just needs to stop being so butthurt that In Flame's isn't going back to the traditional death metal sound found on earlier albums like Colony.
