Cryptopsy - None So Vile
A roar from man in the distance comes into the forte of your ear, and then a weak English sounding man declares “I do that rather well don’t I?”, and after that, there are no silences in the raging madness that eclipses None So Vile. With None So Vile, Cryptopsy manage to make a kick ass album, and one of the best tech death albums ever made. The album is pure non-stop death metal madness, with insane guitar riffs, amazing drum fills, and brutal growls. None of the songs drag at all, and they all seem to be quick to the point that there is no ***ing around with Cryptopsy. Bassist Eric Langlois is possibly the best death metal bassist ever, his audible bass grooves conquers the album through and through, especially in the death metal masterpiece “Slit Your Guts”. Vocalist Lord Worm is also a dominating on None So Vile, as his death growl is powerful and, at times scary. Lord Worm can hold notes for a long time as well, and, surprisingly enough writes some really poetic lyrics as well.
The best two words to describe None So Vile are ***ing tits. The riffs are played in a more than fashionable fashion; the lyrics are poetic despite their deathly content, and the bass rules. There is no reason you shouldn’t be getting this album! If you really haven’t heard the Technical Death Metal album of a life time, then you are seriously missing out.

This is THE defining death metal album. Every aspect of it is insanely good, and with no doubts in my mind would I recommend this to my own grandmother.

This album made me want to take a shower after listening to it...it was that, well, vile. Every minute just crushes and filthies the spirit. Tracks like "Slit Your Guts" and "Orgiastic Disembowelment" are just intense, with eye-gouging musicianship, as well as vocals that surely aren't legal. Whatever happens, don't take that shower until this album is over.

When I first heard None So Vile, I wished I hadn't. The speed and brutality, the sheer power of the album, running like a tsunami through my headphones and into my ears. After listening to the first 4-6 seconds each of "Crown of Horns", "Slit Your Guts" and "Dead and Dripping", I had put my minds at ease. This was no band for me. In fact, it probably wasn't a band for anybody. How could anybody ever like this?
I don't remember the next step, but I do remember that I, who had listened to it for perhaps a grand total of 10 seconds, found myself craving. Somewhere deep inside this heart of mine, Lord Worm's shrieks of agony, Flo Mounier's paced bursts, Jon Levasseur's rythmic shreds, and Eric Langlois hellborn bass. I put None So Vile on my iPod. I listened to it several times, the sensational music stimulating my Eastern sense of music.
None So Vile is a masterpiece. Few disagree on that, but for those few uninitiated; listen to it. Just listen.
The album starts out with a growl. Not a human one - but one of a beast. Then, we hear a wonderful sample from The Exorcist 3. And then... it begins. Like a brutal bash to the forehead with a mace, you're in it. Wonderful solos pass, drums and vocals woven together like cherry blossoms flailing in the wind, and before you know it, Ash sits right in front of you.
"Go ahead and run. Run home and cry to mama!"
As swift as Flo's beats (or maybe not that fast) the album passed, right before your eyes, just as everything must die, just as the leaves of the sakura trees fall. In an instant, it just passed.
If you disagree with the 5/5 this album deserves, I have a tantō you can borrow.

This album is by all definition an abusive relationship. Give it a chance and you'll end up date-raped. But you will come back. Just to get sabbed in the eye or deprived of some vital organ. Bottomline is this album WILL fuck you up, but you will keep coming back until you end up loving it more and more after every listen. A milestone in technichal death metal, and a drunken, wife-beating piece of awesomeness.

cryptopsy are one of the best *** bands in the whole *** world and this is by far their best *** album and its not hard to see why i mean come on are you even listening?
so for all you posers out there who dont know, cryptopsy plays a vicious style of technical death metal that rips ass and kicks chode really hard. REALLY HARD. this album will dominate your chode under an iron boot and skullram you with a pickled dildo, thats how hard it rules son.
let's talk about the instruments. if youre poser enough to not have heard this, you need to know that the drumming is probably top 3 in the world, flo mounier is *** godlike. lets be honest it has vagina demolishing blast beats, demented double bass and sick necrophiliac fills son. the other part of the rhythm, the bass, is also really cool. not only is eric langlois' bass playing really technical and interesting, its also audible which you dont usually find in a death metal record like whoa son.
then theres the guitars. holy *** do the riffs on this album rule. the trems are so good they will butcher your balls with a cleaver and stick them in your nose until you fart them out like holy *** son. soloing is really cool too just saying.
and then lord worms vocals. man this guy is prob the best dm vocalist out there just saying. heres the thing, he sounds like a maniac gorilla werewolf jerking it furiously with a sheet of sandpaper in his fist like that *** intense son. it doesnt matter that you cant understand ***, it still sounds better than almost any other vocalist ever.
so yea bottom line you gotta get this album and listen to it if you havent already and if youre not a punk ass poser kiddy. this album will crush your anus if youre a poser otherwise proceed my righteous brotha. also all the tracks are almost perfect they cant be perfect since perfection doesnt really exist so there you go. go get this sonnn.

This was recommended to me when I was a freshman in high school. At that point the heaviest album i'd listened to was Toxicity. A few years later and I can appreciate this album for what it is: a masterpiece. Songs like Crown of Horns, Slit Your Guts, and Benedictine Convulsions hold a special place in my metal upbringing.

This is one of the most extreme metal albums I own, yet depite it being far heavier than most of my other music, it rarely leaves my cd player once the mood hits. It contains my favorite Cryptopsy song, Crown of Horns, and displays Lord Worm at his vocal peak. It's actually the vocals that attract me to Cryptopsy most of all, but the drums are definately a close second. All in all, there isn't a bad track on this record that truly will bring even the most hardened metalheads to there knees.

My first true Death Metal love. When I first heard Phobophile, I was in shock. Never before had I heard a more genius intro. The transition from haunting piano to quiet bass to full Death Metal assault blew me away. I loved it. Although when I first listened to it, as with many Death Metal albums to me, I was struck by how similar some of the songs were, but at least it's brilliant repetition. It never, ever gets boring. Ultra fast and ultra brutal equals the best Death Metal record I've heard.

alright, i've had to edit this three times. every time i listen to it i gain a little more respect for it. the drums are ungodly, the whole thing is brutal while displaying riffing prowess at the same time, and the bass goes outside the box especially on tracks such as orgiastic disembowelment. pick this up now.

The best death metal album in existance, with some really amazing guitar work, the best drumming out there, some crazy vocals and lyrics that really do manage to get under my skin. crown of horns kicks the album off in brutal fashionwith some laughable off-time vocals from Lord Worm, Slit Your Guts carries it on, the more mid-paced grave of the fathers continues this trend but it is Phobophiles piano intro that stands out the most. This is a masterpiece from front to back

I don't know how to describe this album. The vocals are so unique because you cannot understand a word that is being said. The drumming is the best thing on this album. This is saying a lot. Compared to most other metal drumming, this easily takes the cake in technicality. The album is also very riff driven, with the odd interesting solo here and there. All of these elements combine to form a runaway train that will just mow down anything in its path.
