If you ignore that fact that 66% of the album has been available for years, then the album is really very solid.
Moody and atmospheric and the new track order flows really well. Probably the closest thing we'll get to a new
Team Sleep record.

In all honesty, Chino should just forget Deftones and his other two projects and focus on this. This is easily the best project of his.

Some of the ideas here are really great, but releasing the album like this is a copout. While the songs are a mixed bag, and Chino's vocals and lyrics veer in equal parts between "great" and "distracting", the way the EPs are shoveled together makes it feel like there's very little cohesion or flow to the album, and just like this album consists of 3 parts (2 EPs and 1 new EP length), I find hard to get through it in one sitting.

This album is my first time hearing about this band, and I didn't know most of the tracks have been around on EP's for a while. Despite my ear for sequencing, I couldn't tell that this was patched together until I read about it a few years later. I think this is an incredible, majestic and relaxing record from Chino and co. There is a ton of variety and excellent instrumentation, be it drum machines or actual instruments. There are alot of different elements to the bass, some of it is more subdued, some of it is speaking crushing. Chino sounds great here too, and although he's always better when screaming, somehow sounds right at home singing "pop" songs. Some great hooks and vocals all around. Way better than Team Sleep or any of his other side projects, Crosses is a fruitful listening experience.

Though Crosses is too long and some of its lyrics are hackneyed, overall it is a good listen. It's catchy, well-produced, and Chino's vocals are extraordinary. I wish there was more screaming on the record, though (like the end of "Bitches Brew").

While I can imagine this material could have worked for someone in short bursts, on EPs, it's just unbearable as an LP. Most of the songs have a similar shoegazish sound with similarly embarrassing lyrics about Chino's fantasies (?). Anyway even if you like electronic/dream pop I suggest starting with the EPs and only listening to this if you really want more.

Dreamy, darkly captivating and very sexy electro-rock with a pop core underneath its haunting atmosphere. This album is incredibly well crafted, with interestingly layered tracks, heart-rending passionate vocals and explosive, catchy choruses. While the sound is quite impressive, it's weighed down by a lot of unnecessary tracks that never seem to go anywhere.
