Reinventing Axl Rose', Against Me!'s first set of songs with a full band, is one of the most
original and passionate albums I've ever heard. The six songs that first appeared on either
'Crime' or the 'Acoustic EP' translate perfectly and the rest are some of best songs the band
has written, each chock full of energy and emotion. It would be impossible to pinpoint a
specific highlight here, but the moving acoustic 8 Full Hours of Sleep is lyrically one of
the album's finest moments. Tom Gabel's lyrics are at his best with inspiring songs about
friendship, politics and the solidarity of a show. No, Against Me! have not topped this and
will not, but I can listen to these eleven songs over and over again and it doesn't even
matter.

Not so much a folk-punk album as a folk album with a punk yelling over the top of it, this is a fine record that doesn't match up to what came before it in the genre (The Pogues particularly, but also Billy Bragg and The Men They Couldn't Hang), and certainly doesn't deserve the mighty reputation it's acquired. It's easy enough to enjoy, though, the two highlights being at either end of the record, with the anthemic "Pints of Guinness Make You Strong" and the near-ballad "8 Full Hours of Sleep". The socio-political lyrics do sometimes fall on the wrong side of preachy, but overall, the mixture of political anger, folk guitars, youthful energy, and subtle humour works. Good stuff. Not a classic, though.

I don't often drink, and I'm not known to engage in fist-pumping sing-a-longs, but every time I put this album on that starts to change. The album is a folk-punk masterpiece that's as raw as it is accessible, as fun as it is intriguing. Most importantly, it makes me want to grab a pint of Guinness and scream until I'm coughing up blood.

It is nearly impossible to objectively view an album with so much emotional meaning to one, one that brings back so many memories, the best and the worst, how those lyrics and chords always send chills down your spine when you look at the moments you have been through with a particular work of music. Even without all this, Reinventing Axl Rose is still an exercise in brilliant, raw and honest songwriting that gave a set a new standard for what punk could be.

This may be the greatest album to sing along to, even if you can't sing. The gang vocals only help you feel more comfortable about your terrible singing skills. This isn't music that's meant to be sang really, but yelled at the top of your lungs. You'll find yourself not really caring what Tom Gabel is singing about. You might not even agree with what he saying, but he will have you singing along, or at least humming.

possibly the catchiest album released in the last decade. fuck any sort of emotional connections one may make with this, this album is punk for the sake of being punk and that is an accomplishment within it's irrelevant existence(lol people will hate me if they actually read this).

Now, charge that with the raw energy that makes Reinventing Axl Rose unintentionally perfect and top it off with one of the most passionate lyrical and vocal performances of all time. Now go buy this album.

Awesome album! Great sound! I've listened to their later work, and while their later work is pretty good, it never really reaches this. Yes, it's a very sloppy record, but punk is supposed to be sloppy, and the sloppiness only contributes to the sound, making it sound spontaneous, like they were having a hell of a lot of fun in the recording studio. There's only one way to describe this record, and that's as "a fine mess".

This CD is probably one of the best I have ever heard. It's just so honest and truthful, and watching the band play it live was one of the best live musical events of my life. When they wrote this album, they were so unbelievably devoted to the music and the lyrics they put behind it. Every song is it's own, and each has a different meaning to me. Although I believe that some of these songs are better demonstrated on their accoustic album, this CD is a classic, and should be the reason why Against Me! gets popular. This is Against Me! at their finest, and their new music just doesn't compare.

Reinventing Axl Rose is one of the best albums of the millenium thus far. The music is very raw, yet at the same time very catchy and easily enjoyable. The music is original, and will have you humming the songs hours after listening to them. A definate must buy for anyone who claims to be punk.
