To call this album classic doesn't do it justice. A rival with only two or three albums as the greatest album of all time. It is this good. The Beach Boys are one of the greatest bands of all-time, certainly to have ever come out of the 60s. Their vocal harmonies are second to none, and Brian Wilson's compositions and arrangements are nothing short of masterful. Need proof? Listen to Pet Sounds. This is pop rock at it's best. "Wouldn't it Be Nice" remains one of my favourite songs, even after having known it for the vast majority of my lifetime. "Good Vibrations" would have been right at home here (and perhaps should have been), but even without it this album shines.
An absolute must for any collection. I can't describe it here, it has to be heard. Ignore what you think you know about the Beach Boys. Buy this album, if only to appreciate the massive influence they've had over music. The Beatles didn't change the face of music alone, you know.

Blah blah blah Sgt Peppers was the musical revolution of the 1960s blah blah. Fuck that shit yo, this i where its at. It was a slightly trippy record, but altogether one of the most fun listens I've ever had. Though I havent listened to it for like two years so I don't have quite as much to say about it as I normally would. Well, it basically paved the way for progressive music you could say. But then you could say the opposite. ITs oh so contrived.

Sometimes, albums are regarded as "classics" by absolutely every music fan, critic, lover, etc. you can think of. And you, in all of your blissful ignorance, won't really "get it" at first. The Beach Boys' opus in Pet Sounds is one of those very records; passed down from generation to generation as a benchmark creation of popular music. Initially, you will most likely be misunderstanding the album, and interpret on surface value as an album that's just boppy, charming, clever pop. More detailed and attentive listens, however, will ultimately establish it as something far more.
You will learn, over time. With every string-arrangement swell, with every thunder-strike drum roll, with every Wilson-arranged harmony falling into place, with every "God Only Knows", "That's Not Me", "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "Caroline No". It settles in. It becomes an old friend. It delivers. This record is indisputably one the most immense, delicate and truly beautiful works of art to be found in the annals of music history, let alone pop music as a separate entity. Pet Sounds is evidence alone of claiming Brian Wilson as a genius. So hoist up the John B sail.

Im completely obsessed with this album. I think the play count is in the 40s. Id say Beach Boys equivalent of Rubber Soul. It's pop, but still amazing

The most complete and beautiful collection of American music ever produced, and quite frankly could be the best album ever, period. 'Wouldn't It Be Nice', 'Dont Talk', 'I'm Waiting For the Day', 'God Only Knows', are each arguably the best love song(s) ever penned. 'Sloop John B', 'That's Not Me' & 'I Know There's an Answer' are all amazing. The Wilson vocal harmonies that so many try (and fail) to mimic are at their peak here, and they're second to none. Deep into drugs and self seclusion, Brian Wilson pulled something extremely unique and beautiful out of this 'ego music' of his. The arrangements are beautiful, the songs resonate with heat and warmth, 'Pet Sounds' is really a thing to behold.

Pet Sounds is rightly recognized as a classic album. However we many times forget that it was a link in an unfinihed chain. Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys sound can be traced from their earliest albums through the increasing sophistication of Little Duece Coupe to the concept of All Summer Long to the brilliance of Pet Sounds. It was all leading to Smile which was never finished.

First I was into the Beatles, then I discovered the Monkees. The reputation doesn't precede it because it never really was given a great reputation. The vocal harmonies stand out incredibly here and the music that goes with it is just as amazing.

What can really be said about this album that hasn't already? This is without a doubt the best pop album ever made. Brian Wilson was a musical genius of unparalleled skill and talent, and it really shows. Pet Sounds is the product of Brian's skill, struggle, and pain, and it is truly a beautiful thing to behold. It's truly perfect.

One of the only albums from the sixties that I truely love. Songs like 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' and 'God Only Knows' are so famous and catchy that it's hard not to feel an immediate thrill. But the really good songs are the slow burn ones like 'I Just Wasn't Made For These Times' or 'Caroline, No'. Beautiful and timeless, 'Pet Sounds' is a great album that everyone should experience. Oh.. And 'Sloop John B' is awesome too.

People have a tendency to both overate and underrate this album. Regardless, this is a classic album which regularly frequents greatest album lists. The Beach Boys unfortunately get the shaft, as they are only regarded as surf rockers. Fact: no one in rock history could produce harmonies as beautiful as the Beach Boys, and this album proves it.

Without the pet sounds by the Beach Boys, there would be no Sergeeant PeppER'S lonely hearts club band, so this album has to be a 5/5 classic! Truly a beautiful album and although the Beach Boys are generally thought of as generic surf rock, tell em to listen to this, pet sounds, one of the best albums ever made EVER! It's no Revolver or Sgt. Pepper, but it tickles me.

WOULDN'T IT BE NICE IF WE WERE OLDER, THEN WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG. How can you not enjoy Pet Sounds, one of the most important albums ever released? It is a classic in every way possible, and it always makes me feel better when I'm down. Why not full marks? Because the album just isn't flawless. There is something holding me back from giving it full marks. I am not sure what it is though. Either way, I dig it. IMMENSELY. Now I better stop tryping before my carpel tunnel kicks in.
