Breakdown of Sanity know how to do it big on the guitar front, no doubt. This album demonstrates that. They even can create interesting atmosphere as well, and enough instrumental variation to provide kickass, exciting music. Unfortunately, they need that kind of variation in the vocal department. Its not that the vocalist is bad; he's not. Its just that the low OOOOOOOOO growl can get boring if used to the extent that it is. Though the band does utilize clean vocals EXTREMELY occasionally, which is very refreshing, they're not nearly as prominent as they should be, and the monotony of the harsh vocals, which stay in mid-range for the majority of the album except for the lows for a bunch of breakdowns, is what brings the rating down to a 4. Yes, still a 4. Cause they do it that big.

I have such a soft spot for this band. Generic as fuck but equally fun. This album is a rpretty big step up from Mirrors, the songwriting is much better, more interesting guitar rleads, and their energetic brand of chugging is still holding up well enough. rOddly enough my gripe is with the vocals. I know for a fact that this guy is one of the more rtalented screamers in the genre, and yet his performance here is very limited in range. I've rheard him hit awesome highs and crushing lows but he seems pretty content with his mid range rhere. They sound great, but the highs are nearly untouched, and the lows could definitely be rused more as well. Some sections very obviously suffer simply because a higher or lower rrange would have made a much larger impact. rAll in all it's a very fun album.

I understand the argument about this band being generic etc etc etc, but I fucking love these guys, the production of their songs is unreal. Another solid album.

This gets a 4 because it is a hell of a lot better than previous efforts. I'm sick of everyone bashing this band for breakdowns. What the hell do you expect from a band with the word in their name?? Perception is definitely a step in the right direction, and a monumental improvement. The album does a good job of holding an atmosphere, and at times the instrumentation can be quite spectacular. There are plenty of catchy guitar leads throughout that are always backed with on point drumming. I do agree that the vocals lack range, but the lyrics he is screaming are an improvement from the past. It was a very enjoyable album, and that's all that really matters to me.

If this is even remotely similar to Mirrors, I don't understand how it could possibly deserve a 4.1 average.

Breakdown of Sanity is a bit of an anomaly in the scene in that they probably have some of the most breakdown heavy music in existence yet people still praise them to a respectable degree. Honestly this is just highly enjoyable mosh fare. My gripes with it are the degree of digitized sounding bits and production which just rubs me badly on occasion. It can get monotonous as it's definitely too long for the number of breakdowns. On the other hand it is about as heavy as metalcore gets. If there is one spot on the album that is remarkable without being heavy breakdown filled material it's the ambient atmospheric title track in the middle of the album and how beautifully it transitions into the gorgeous delay guitar lead over breakdown intro of "The Gift". That's why this bumps up to a 3.5 in my eyes.

A great example of modern metal, transforming metalcores weaknesses into another welcome feature on a groove-laden, fast paced and highly diversified album.

It may be generic, but this is freaking fun to listen to.

This is pretty djenty. Not too horrible, but a bit tiring to listen through as an entire album, even for its moments of brilliance.

It's amazing how Breakdown of Sanity can make an album filled with breakdowns and still make it so much fun to listen to. This album is a step up from Mirrors in every way, except for the vocals. There are some great guitar solos and atmospheric sounds and the drums are great as usual. But on this album the vocalist mostly just stays in the mid range. He does do some decent cleans that surprised me, but he shows so little range in his screams on this album that I was hoping for high vocals or something the whole time. But the vocalists are still pretty solid and the production is flawless. They might not be the most original band, but they are definitely fun to listen to.
