Crimson II is basically 40 minutes of brilliant non-stop, excellent, professional ass-kicking melodic death metal. The album is not as godlike as Crimson but it is pretty damn close. Fans of melodic death metal need to get this ASAP.

Like most sequels, Crimson II is inferior to the original. However, it is still a great release. Indeed, I would even go so far as to call it my second favourite album from the band-- though calling Edge of Sanity a "band" at this point is fatuous, as Dan Swano is the only one who did anything on this record apart from vocal and guitar guest spots. Crimson II is more synth-driven than its predecessor and features longer stretches of full out death metal which, unfortunately, grow stale in spots. With that said, though, there are plenty of excellent riffs and sections and some motifs from the original Crimson are re-purposed brilliantly, and it is these parts which render Crimson II a great album, if not a classic like the original.

Highly overrated. Many of the riffs here, other than the ones recycled from the first Crimson LP, simply do not sound like Edge of Sanity. This drastically impacts the tone and feel of the LP - to my ears this is clearly a Dan Swano work, and much less of an Edge of Sanity album (aside from the aforementioned riffs that appeared on the first. Crimson LP). It is not a bad record and is definitely worth a listen, but the classic EOS melodies and slightly neoclassical riffs are rarely present. The brutal death metal has been toned down as well, and the record feels just as disconnected from classic EOS as Cryptic is. That being said, Dan without the rest of the band yields better results than Cryptic did. Everything from Unorthodox - Crimson is far more essential listening.

Possibly my personal favorite metal album ever, but I can't give it a 5 because Crimson is objectively better.

Following up their fourty minute epic track with an equally good track was going to be nearly impossibly, but Crimson II really kills the first song off with its unique structuring and the fantastic instrumental work throughout.

Brutal, Melodic, Epic, hugely atmospheric and criminally overshadowed by its older crimson. Crimson 2 is my favourite song of all time and my 2nd fave album ever. This is a must buy for anyone with an interest in prog/death metal.
