Solid album marred by horrible production, a drop in songwriting quality, and a lack of real innovation, but even if letlive DO rip off every post-hardcore cliche possible, they're still intense and fun on their A-game, and they're arguably doing that sound better than anyone else right now. Empty Elvis, American Black Market, That Fear Fever, The Dope Beat and 27 Club kick loads of ass and prove they've still got it, but it's not even near the level of Fake History really.

Really impressive performances and catchy songwriting coupled with some of the worst production I have ever heard. I hope this album sees a re-release in the near future, it has the potential to be a classic if it wasn't marred by the terrible mix.

"The Blackest Beautiful" shows Letlive maturing even more and trying to be taken more seriously.. I'll admit, I first saw this as an average effort by Letlive, and the production is certanly not the best production ever, but with a few more listens it grew on me more and more. Despite the average production, the amazingness, the emotion and the groovy, dancing feel of every song make this a solid release by Letlive.

On each consecutive listen, I find something genuinely appalling. Whether it's a set of lyrics hits me in the face, or a certain groove gets my coals kindling this album is an ego bruiser.

Jump on either band wagon love it or hate it. But it doesn't change the fact that this record is sloppy as fuck. Who said it was okay to release something so poorly produced? For that single reason The Blackest Beautiful doesn't deserve anything higher than a 2.

Great album. A worthy successor to Fake History, although not as good. A huge weight that brings this album down is the production. While the production on Fake History was raw and a little muddled it worked perfectly for their sound and made the songs seem dirty. This album the production is muddy as opposed to dirty. It feels overproduced. Especially the drums. Listen to the drums on "The Fear Fever" during the verse. They sound so fake. Also I feel like the bass is too prevalent. Anyways this album is still a rocker and I am excited to hear some of these songs live !

Spun this recently and I still love it. Sure, it is awfully produced and it doesn't have anything near as good as Muther or Day 54, but there is no filler, every track is fun and energetic (minus Virgin Dirt which is a highlight for being the closest we get to something completely different).

An album like The Blackest Beautiful ought to be deemed a hellacious pigsty, what with the sound quality being a tad more than muddy and the certain spoken word sections (e.g. "27 Club") coming off as condescending. American post-hardcore unit Letlive. somehow use both aspects on this record to their advantage for the most part, which in turn compliment frontman Jason Butler's kinetic vocal delivery. The 2013 offering doesn't always hit a grand slam if I'm being frank, but there do exist moments on the Los Angeles-based band's third full-length recording which can justify a home run in one way or another.

one of my favorite post hardcore-pop bands made a record that is often boring, disjointed, and a production lackluster. ugh, I never saw it coming, and it's a shame. Younger, and a few other tracks stand up, tho. Give it a listen.

Listened to it 2 and a half times now and it's just not completely clicking with me. The production is a real dealbreaker for me, as even though the hooks are there, the heavier section just don't have as much bite as Fake History. Really hope the CD quality is better but i have a bad feeling that wont be the case.
