Acid Rap is the sort of experience that you just have to listen to. It will entrap you like a nostalgic friend does after spotting you on the street. Every repeated listen a little bit more sincere.

Chance the Rapper is a singer-songwriter born and raised in Chicago. He began to gain mainstream recognition in 2013 after releasing his second mix-tape Acid Rap.
My favorite songs on the Acid Rap album are Lost (ft Noname), Paranoia, and Everybody’s Something. The song Nana (ft Action Bronson) I would say is one of the songs on the album I disliked when I first heard it but over time it grew on me. At the beginning of the song it starts off with obnoxious and irritating noises but, as you listen throughout the rest of the song you will see there's a reason it starts off that way which adds a compelling effect to the rest of the song. In addition, I don't have any songs I dislike on the album, just parts of some songs that I feel could be better.
The name of the album fits all of the songs perfectly in their own unique ways. I believe Chance brought positive and hype vibes to each song due to the lyrical and beat switch ups. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes to listen to alternative rap and acid jazz music. Because of this album being released at the peak of Chance’s rap career, this flow of music isn’t very common now. Which makes this album even more unique and interesting to listen to. Based on my review, I give his album a 9/10. This album is amazing but I feel some of these songs could have some things taken away.

It's crazy how conflicting my feelings about this album became over time. Initially, I thought this album had some charm to it, like even though his purposely nasal voice gets overbearing sometimes, it's like it came from a friend who annoyed you into having a good time because you were being uptight. However, getting to know how this dude operates over the years really changed the context for how this album sounds to me. At this point, I really don't think this guy ever touched acid in his life and just wanted to make an album that appeals to that crowd, noticing how enthused they may be. The chorus to NaNa sounds more like a kid trying to taunt someone when you consider how he treats people who help him. The entire album balances on the assumption that Chance is charismatic, but he's going to need to be more the person he portrays in order for it to be appropriately endearing, and I can't help but notice lines in his newer material that push him away from the version of himself that got him popular. Someone trying to annoy you out of uptight-ness really flips around the impression when you realize they were actually giving you a valid reason to feel uptight.

This is one dope tape lel. Chance called some acid jazz musicians, and you can tell: some tracks have got a laid-back feel to them, and the druggy references go beyond lyrical considerations: the whole lot is sweating acid through all its pores, and while at times it guarantees some hard-hitting jams ("Cocoa Butter Kisses"), other tracks do tend to indulge themselves in so much druggery that they sound maniac ("Pusha Man").

When Chance pops off, he really does pop off. With a handful of bad records (and a really bad one), Chance is often left out of the great rappers conversation. But when listening to Acid Rap (and for that matter Ultralight Beam), you see what Chance could have been. This record overflows with joy and incredible production, while making space for Chance's unique style and flow. Very close to a 4.5, but some average tracks prevent this record from reaching these numbers (above rodeo)

Chance's first "mixtape" (this is an album to me) kicks off what's sure to be a long and interesting career. He is a semi-conscious rapper at the least, but is more than capable of having fun. And that's what makes Acid Rap sort of a mixed bag, tons of inconsistency. Chance is capable of spitting some really complex, gotta listen to twice verses, but he often drops much weaker ones, sometimes even within the same song. There are a lot of drug references as the album title suggests, but there is a fair amount of variety, with Chance offering up impassioned social commentary, songs about girls, and even some "sweet" stuff. He is truly a star in the making. The soundscape is lush as well, and there is a variety of different types of beats and influences ranging from gospel all the way to prog rock. A really solid album, and so far Chance's best work.

This record helped me get through my freshmen/sophomore years of high school. I'll never be able to forget the unique voice of Chano, and the way that he cooked up some sweet bangers while also putting in some introspective tracks as well.

Some of these sound offs are so bad bro it's hard to even comprehend. You can not like the album but "an internet rapper with a good flow" and beginning your sound-off with "While other rappers try to innovate" is basically an admission you didn't even listen to the album.

Really charismatic in its surface eccentricities, it ends up as an album that knows what it's doing but still
fumbles and occasionally needs to be whipped into shape. Three tracks can be cut entirely, and some tracks
could use with being a little more individualistic from the experience on the whole. It deserved the hype but
looking at it objectively after the hype has faded it's merely a great vehicle for a proper Chance debut, as 10
Weeks didn't get much hype.
