Get ready to see how easy it is to review this album: this album is an album demanding respect and showcasing a unique understanding of contrarian ideas and execution. It's too bad I honestly get disinterested and immediately fall back to wondering what kind of point the Knife really think they're making with this record.

Shaking the Habitual sees The Knife delving further into much more avant-garde industrial influences rather than electro-industrial ones. Showing inspiration from the likes of Current 93, Coil, Einst?rzende Neubauten, and Throbbing Gristle, The Knife is experimenting with some of the most fleshed out compositions they've ever produced. While they've retained their tribal percussion, The Knife has toned down the IDM and tech house indie-dance anthems, and has opted for a more ominous approach with two discs worth of elongated songs that sprawl over disturbing dark ambient droning, and the unsettling progressive builds of caustic minimal techno. These assets combined should prove to make Shaking the Habitual an album with much longevity if The Knife decides to take another six year break in between albums.

I'm not sure if I could love this album any more than I have been, but I'll report back the next time I can get my hands on some LSD.

Some good tracks, but too many pseudo experimental ones that fail to prove their point. what
could've been a 3.5-4 lost most of it's appeal because of that. overrated, and overhyped

Sounds like Bjork. Feels like Bjork. It must be Bjork.

This is a primal, visceral, and raw album, totally stripped of any inhibitions or obligation to musical convention. It's so weird and so crazy in such a good way, even if some parts like the fleetingly short primeval songs or the forbiddingly long ambient tracks could use a little more work to keep them interesting.

Deleted "Old Dreams Waiting To Be Realized" and now I have my second favorite album of 2013,
one which I totally dismissed as something I might listen to once or twice a few months ago.
The lyrics are still slightly hard to parse at times, but they're funny enough and filled
with enough political meaning that they hold up the lightly danceable and surprisingly busy
soundscapes behind them after a few spins. Even the infamous "Fracking Fluid Injection" grew
on me, both as a statement and as a song. Initial comparisons to Swans's The Seer might be
made, but they disappear over time in favor of something closer to tUnE-yArDs + Sonic Youth.
Stop thinking about post-rock and start thinking about Daydream Nation (and Shaking the
Habitual)! P.S. Even for a non-supporter of Occupy Wall Street, Stay Out Here is uncannily
poetic about it.

Urgh, this is my album of the year... But I just can't put to words why I love it so much.

A fantastic album, but "Fracking Fluid Injection" is about 4 minutes too long. It's a neat little experiment but fuck does it draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag ooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnn aaaaaaaaaaaaand ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnn

hooray for the ultra pretentious. when you get this album, you get this album. only misstep in my eyes is Fracking Fluid Injection which should just never have been released by anyone ever anywhere.

So is this actually good because I saw this being featured on absolutepunk.net and assumed this would be terrible?

An alright release, a lot of it sounds like Bjork rip-offs and can sound dull and vapid in some spots, especially with songs like A Tooth For An Eye, though some songs are resounding in that they get stuck in your head - for me anyway. One of those is Full of Fire, which got me anticipated for this release as it's imagery seemed to renact a scene from Enter The Void or some dazed trip.

This isn't about Bjork! I could give a fuck less about her! I've been waiting 7 years for this album. Discuss THE Album.

"Wrap your arms around me", "Old Dreams Waiting to Be Realized", "Raging Lung" and "Fracking Fluid Injection" are worth hearing at least once. The rest of it just doesn't speak to me.
