This is a pretty fun technical metalcore (deathcore?) romp. The guitar playing is great and the drumming keeps the urgent exciting mood going most of the time. I'd perhaps recommend Elite to fans of Veil of Maya. However, the vocals can get a little monotone and the songs can get a bit samey if you listen to this all the way through.

naaaah bloc, Invade was much rougher, sounding way more evil and not even coming close to the catchiness of this one. it's a step up for Within The Ruins, without bringing anything original to the table. 'I, Blaspheme' is a nice highlight with the programmed guitars but that's about it. from 3 to 3.5 for me.

Some of the songs are good; everything this band puts out just doesn't flow well for me. I don't know i feel like i should love their shit, but its missing something.

Probably be bumped up to a 4 after a few more listens. Invade was okay and had a few great jams but I preferred Creature and, in my opinion, this sounds like a more mature Creature.

Upon listening to Elite, it is clear Within The Ruins has not changed a single thing about their approach to music. Elite is a near carbon copy of the band's previous album, Invade, right down to the guitar tone. Unfortunately, this means all of the band's flaws on Invade are present on Elite and perhaps even magnified; the most prominent being the lack of variety among songs. You would think Elite was recorded at the same time as Invade back in 2010 but the band decided to wait three years to release it.
