Panzerfaust, considered the last classic release by the Norwegian Juggernaut. The album has a less "static" sound with very little reverb and pretty clear guitar sounds. Fenriz pounds away on drums which are as always shittily produced. Many feel the vocals are too raw, I say they are great. No reverb no nothing, just straight up Nocturno Culto without any modification. Excellent and memorable riffs, and classics such as Hans Siste Vinter and En Vind Ab Sorg make this cd essential for fans of Black Metal.

Nothing spectacular in this album but there is something here that grows on you - idk what it is wasn't paying attention... could be the raw-crisp production or the raw visceral voice or the guitar tone - but I like this album. May even give it a 4.5 sometime.

Panzerfaust is Darkthrone's most dynamic approach to black metal so far and, thereby, also one of the more exciting ones. Each song brings a fresh perspective of the sound of the album. The riffing is still great (of course!) and lot more varied as the albums before this.

Frankly (don't @me) I'm not that convinced. Sure the riffage on 1 is some of the best DT material out there, blissfully frozen and blizzardey, and 4 is kinda cool, but there's lots not to be crazy about here. There lots of slower bits, the prod on vocals on 1 is especially strange, lots of tracks end on fadeout, the album conclusion with the spoken word is ok but a bit questionable, idk this doesn't feel as focused as the black trilogy. Feels like a step back. To be fair though I didnt have the best listening condition so I might check it again still. 3.6

Yet another crushing atmospheric Daekthrone album with hypnotizingly thin production, and strong melodies. Was a strong 4, I was even considering a 4.5, but the final 4:30 spoken track about snow and forests ruined it for me. Also missing the rawer BM sound of their first two BM releases, although it was present in some songs.

Some of the writing holds this back from being a perfect album, but one thing is for sure: Darkthrone made one of the truest black metal albums to exist with this effort.

"Panzerfaust" is one of the most genuine works in Norwegian Black Metal. Everything seems so perfectly embedded here, it seems ironic to see that this record does not have the recognition it deserves. All the weight, the guttural structures and the sound quality are united with the vile atmosphere. Looking at the cover art, you get the feeling of what your body will take in the moment you listen to a masterpiece like that.

An extremely mixed bag. We have two of the best songs in Darkthrone's catalogue ("En vind av sorg," "Hans siste vinter"), a doom metal-esque track with Varg Vikernes-penned lyrics (!) ("Quintessence"), two death metal-ish songs with laughably bad vocals ("Triumphant Gleam," "Beholding the Throne of Might"), and a (too) short ambient spoken word closer. Besides inconsistency, the other issue with Panzerfaust is the mixing. The vocals are way too loud; they drown out the other instruments. It's counter-intuitive to complain about bad mixing on a black metal record, but this is just so glaring a problem that it can't be ignored. Still, the great tracks are absolutely phenomenal, and the atmosphere is still palpable.

The vocals are too loud (obvsly), it's too samey, and a bit boring. Darkthrone's slow riffing has never been that exciting and they do that a lot here. Thankfully there's also a bit of punky riffing, which shakes things up every now and again and makes it a bit more interesting. Not amazing, but still pretty decent.

It`s said there are three classic DT albums, in fact I think there are four, "Panzerfaust"
shouldn`t be bypassed.
Sure, it is not so consistent as "Transilvanian" (but "Under" was neither), even when it starts
with track that sounds similar - you will find one more reminder here. Rest of the record is
slower and more doom(/death) influenced, or Celtic Frost influenced if you want. Why not, when
they take it to the new level of misanthropic darkness. Main change is in riffs, they`ve never
been so heavy before. Vocals are just loud and brutal. All thing ends with atmospheric outro,
spoken vocal used.
It`s really hard to believe that any band could release 4 classic records in 4 years, DarkThrone
just did it.

Too underrated, likely overshadowed by the phenomenal albums just before this. Panzerfaust is quite different with its more 'old school' approach, but that doesn't mean it's for the worse. The album is full of great tunes and no fillers. Variation is the album's strongest point, aside of the material itself of course. 4.1/5

Musically not as good as the 3 preceding albums, but more varied. Vocals are quite different than before, but good; off-putting at first, certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but then again that kind of applies to this band in general. On the whole a rather downcast album, whereas the black trilogy was strangely uplifting. Still better than almost any other BM album then and now.

an average album, darkthrone's older albums are far better. the songwriting is very uninspired, and the songs are just plain boring at times. this isn't the darkthrone that made great albums like TH and ABITNS. this will probably take time to grow on the listener if it does at all.
