Jack Owen (ex. cannibal corpse) really annihilated this album, not only did he completely elevate Deicide to a new level of brutallity but he also forged a beautiful blend of unique shreds and riffs that makes this album "almost" progressive. Although it is a brand new sound for Deicide it's the BEST they have ever sounded EVER!
First off. I cannot stand American death metal. It all sounds the same, has repetitive riffing, has boring vocals, and the soloing sounds fantastic but isn't as good as thrash metal's mediocre soloing.
But this CD changed all that. The solos are top of the line. Glen Benton's vocals are great to scream along with, there are a few great screams here and there (not overdone), the riffing doesn't get boring that quick, the songs sound different, and it still has the tear-your-soul-out intensity that got me to try to get into death metal in the first place. Fantastic CD, one of the top 3 of the year, and Walk with the Devil in the Dreams you Behold gets my vote for 2006 Song of the Year.
Glen Benton and his posse of grumpy devil-worshippers came back with a punch on this record, the first featuring their two new guitarists. The guitar work is exceptional, with riffs as hooky as death metal will get anytime soon and some blazing solos for good measure. Sure Benton hasn't changed his lyrical content since...well, ever- but it's still a solid release from a veteran metal band.
