Isis and this album first grabbed my attention when I saw them open for Tool on October 2nd, 2006. This was my first time hearing the band and it felt as if Aaron Harris was drumming on my chest. I was immediately impressed with Dulcinea and the incredible buildup that seemed to last forever towards the climax of the song and soon checked out the rest of the album only to realize there were many more epic, mind blowing songs to pleasure my ears. Wrist of Kings, Holy Tears and Garden of Light are some of the most beautifully composed songs I have ever heard. In the Absence of Truth is powerful, jaw dropping musical journey that everyone should experience.

I have read a lot of ISIS reviews on the net,for every single album they have released.With some of them i agree with some i disagree but i get angry when i see people rate In The Absence Of Truth a 3.0 or less.Let me tell you something in all of my years of listening to good music i have yet to meet and discover a band with such emotion anger and spirituality as ISIS.From their first and underrated Celestial album to ITAOT they have evolved in many ways,they have turned their sound to a more epic,emotional approach.Do not get me wrong there is still anger but they use it in a more suddle in a way.So i know that a lot of people will get pissed off because of their sound change but the bottom line is they are still as good as ever and still as close as ever to their original sound.And that is why people have a problem with ITAOT.
People think it is too soft,too post-rock like,but then again they have to evolve,that is the whole point of having a band i think it is to evolve and learn musically what you can do.And ISIS reached their limit of epicness on this one.
This album is not only emotionally amazing but it gives you a hight feel of spirituality too.From Harris amazing drum playing to Bryant Clifford Meyers hunting keyboards,epic brakes in songs that bring chills to your spine,i will have to say this is my favorite ISIS album.

This record is good but its missing something. What it is missing is that "umph" that made Panoptican so awesome. This record is just plain boring at times. Where Panoptican rewarded you for your patience, this album does not. And its not that big of a step from Panoptican. Most of the tracks scream, "been there, done that." I definitely see why there was only more Isis album after this one. Seems like they ran out of ways to advance their sound. With that being said, some tracks do kick some serious ass. Not in Rivers, but in Drops, Over Root and Thorn, and Holy Tears are great songs but three great songs and 6 mediocre to all right songs don't make a very good album.

Having only heard this and Oceanic, I can safely say this is more of what I expected based off all the hype I'd been hearing about these guys. This release seemed a lot tighter to me, and had a lot more melodic hooks to keep me interested. There was also a pretty nice flow to this record, though there are only about 3 or 4 tracks that really stand out for me. In this vein of music I still prefer Rosetta, but if this album is any indication of Isis's future, I'll be all ears.

I couldn't quite believe my ears when I heard my favorite band's follow-up to my all-time favorite album. I sat in disbelief as a group of five out-did perfection in my every definition. They rewrote the definition of epic using tribal drumming, spacey guitar, and soaring rhythms in the process. To me, this album is Perfection, Evolved.

Isis' majesty and mastery of the genre fires on all cylinders on this album, eclipsing the already-brilliant albums that were Oceanic and Panopticon, making In the Absence of Truth the band's best yet. "Wrist of Kings" burns with a slow fire while the instruments build and take center stage, and then the listener is slammed with such a bold wall of sound that is absolutely stunning, while "Dulcinea" and "Holy Tears" will blow listeners away with their epic, magnificent sound. It did wonders for the band to tour with Tool in 2006 because of the opportunity presented to expose their music to millions, and with each Isis release, the band continues to out-do themselves. Thus, In the Absence of Truth is a near-masterpiece.
