So a poor quality rip surfaced (160 kbps), and naturally, as I have no self control, I caved and listened to it. Surprise: it's the best album they've put out so far and probably the best post-metal release of the year. Yes, better than the most recent output of a certain little band on whose label Amenra were signed to in the past year. For the record, I did not expect that to happen, but hey. Also, this can only get better once A: a better quality leak surfaces, and B: once I buy the vinyl and hear the album's 5th track. And yes, this is all hyperbolic first impression bullcrap that you have every right to ignore and/or make fun of.
Also, @Nikkolae, thiz isn't the wrong art. It's the vinyl art, and the CD art is different. Also, fuck it. 5'd.

This is in every way a better Neurosis album than the actual Neurosis album released this year.

Best post-metal album released this year and a contender for album of the year IMO. As epic as this record is, I can't help but feel disappointment considering that Amenra is on Neurot records and this album is WAY BETTER than Honor Found in Decay.

Yea uh this is likely to get demoted alas. I absoluetly love them in a gig, and these tracks are 5/5 in that setting. I love them all of course, but I feel like for an at-home listen, it's not a 5. The buildups are just too long, on 3 especially. Still 4.5 ish but I on't expect this 5 will survive a second listen. [PENDING]

This album will forever be linked to the Graspop show in 2014. The fog on the stage was so thick I didn't realize the band was there until the first notes of The Pain... had started. Colin turned his back to the stage and seemed like a frantic chap. It was extremely violent, but it still had that certain amount of restraint Amenra always displayed. When Boden hit, Colin's movements were more back-breaking than ever, and I closed my eyes so I could only hear the music and smell the sweet Mary Jane. If there is one band that can claim the post-metal crown this decade, it sure is Amenra. They took all the genre elements (grandeur, loneliness, ritual, devastation) and turned 'em up to 11.

AMENRA surpass their influences/peers to truly come into their own on Mass V. For its four track, 42 minute length, they don't waste a moment, using every single second to create an omnious, brooding atmosphere towards its crushing crescendos. I was originally had gripes with the (somewhat grating at first) vocals, but after listening through this a couple of times, they've truly grown on me.
I would write a review for this, but honestly, I see no point. If you have an interest in atmospheric metal/rock, this is a must-listen. Don't waste your time reading a lengthy review, go listen to it now!
