Exodus gains Steve "Zetro" Souza, but Pleasures of the Flesh ultimately doesn't hold a candle to Bonded by Blood. There are still some great tracks, though, like Deranged, Parasite, Faster Than You'll Ever Live To Be, Chemi-Kill, and the raging closer Choose Your Weapon. Unlike their debut, Pleasures of the Flesh is usually at its best when it's going full speed. The fuck is that Tarzan shit going on at the start of the title track though?

I'd say the songs aren't quite as strong as BbB, but the vocals are 100% better. This kinda revens it out, keeping them on par with each other.

Really solid neoclassical guitar woek, and some cool odd-meter moments. Otherwise pretty standard old-school thrash, especially for the second half.

This album marked the transition between the heavy tritonus riffing on the brilliant debut to more happy-sounding blues-based thrash riffs which on the long term pretty much lowered the songwriting quality of subsequent Exodus thrash albums. Still, the riffs used here are great and the what makes this album much better than the subsequent two is that Souza was not comfortable enough to use his screechy vocals as these songs were written with Baloff's singing in mind. His voice adds nothing to the music, but at least it ain't annoying. Terrific solos all the way on this album as well, probably one of the best thrash albums when it comes to excellent usage of guitar solos. Many thrash based played them randomly, to give a break to the vocalist. Highlights: 1-4, 6, 9 and 10.

Bonded By Blood is a stone cold classic that was difficult to follow-up to, and on Pleasures of The Flesh, they up the technicality, and they are not in short supply of venomous riffs and songs, but the malice of BBB is only found in spades here, and the album is hampered by dated production and uninteresting vocals. That being said, the songs are damn good, and their riffcraft is as strong as ever. "Parasite," "Choose Your Weapon," and the title track are career highlights in the guitarwork department and show their maturing progress as a group with tempo changes and "progressive" tendencies. The soloing is technical as usual, and tunes like "Braindead" and "Seeds of Hate" encompass the different styles presented here with maximum effort. A slight stepdown from Bonded By Blood but a solid step forward for the group towards their next masterpiece. A great album in their catalog.
