| 4.5 superb | immortalizepain | October 3rd 12 | A review said, Old and new fans alike will embrace this decision, for this release brings
back the intensity of Cities as well as incorporating new musical outlets never before
explored by the band. Hey, rock AOTY, why the f#ck not?
Edit: Yes, it's awesome!

| 4.5 superb | Davey Boy STAFF | December 14th 12 | 'Vital' is Anberlin's aptly titled 6th LP, where the dependable Floridian quintet return to producer Aaron Sprinkle to successfully capture the essence of their live sound on record. Explosive, energetic & passionate, this is heavy without sacrificing any of the band's melodic hooks. Stephen Christian's majestic vocals are matched by the blazing guitars & pounding drums, while the infusion of synth flourishes not only adds depth, but somehow assists the aggressive tone. From the tremendous opening one-two punch to the epic closer, this consistent LP is a supremely rewarding listen. Recommended Tracks: Little Tyrants, Self-Starter, Desires, Someone Anyone & Type Three.

| 0.0 | Brighter Than the Noonday | October 30th 12 | Even more obnoxious and pretentious than "Cities." Right when I was hoping to restore my faith in Anberlin. They
started out as a modestly interesting, albeit derivative, rock band. Now they have exploded into an
OVERPRODUCED MESS. No whole song is memorable on here; only a few moments that aren't pumped with
superficial cheese make a lasting impression. The rest is all Anberlin has been surviving on since "Cities": filler.

| 3.5 great | kakemonster | October 16th 12 | After the critically acclaimed Cities, Anberlin have seemed somewhat unsure on how to
further evolve and progress as a band. On Vital the band tries to go back to the intricacies
displayed on Cities, while incorporating more synth instrumentation in their sound. It
sounds good on paper, but the reality is more a of mixed bag. When it works, it works
better than ever, as evident on songs such as Modern Age, Innocent and Self-Starter, a
glimpse of what the band is capable at their best. The main problem with Vital however, is
that several songs do not have strong enough melodic quality to keep you continually
interested. Adding synths into the mix does not automatically make a song better, when the
songwriting itself is not strong enough. The result is an uneven album somewhat lacking in
"dynamics", as several choruses are quite a let-down melodically, often creating a kind of
anti-climax(e.g. Other Side, Intensions). Another disappointment is that certain songs,
while strong melodically, are unfortunately somewhat ruined by repetetiveness (e.g. Orpheum
and God, drugs and sex).

| 5.0 classic | Ian | October 12th 12 | This is the album Anberlin has always been capable of making. I can't say if nostalgia will eventually keep me from preferring this over Cities, but I have to admit this is the strongest overall album Anberlin has ever made. A must listen in 2012.

| 5.0 classic | Joseph Newcomer | January 31st 13 | Anberlin has yet to make a bad release. In my opinion this is easily their best record to date. I give this album a slight edge over cities just because of the new grounds exlpored and the diversity. Best tracks here are the fantastic opener "Self Starter", the Godspeed like "Little Tyrants" and the amazing trio "Orpheum", "Modern Age", and the artistically beautiful "God, Drugs, & Sex". Not one bad song on this record although i havent quite grown to like "Innocent" and the overly repetitive "Other Side", although i do enjoy the synth intro and the verses which i found way too short. Overall i enjoy every song here as they are all amazing in their own way.

| 3.0 good | pepster50 | December 9th 12 | Been listening to Anberlin for a long time. Never been a HUGE fan of them, but every album usually has one or two songs that I really enjoy. This one does too: Self-Starter. The rest of the album, while being pretty solid, just seems okay. There are no really stand-out tracks to me(except self starter). The guitar-work is nothing ground breaking, the melodies are lacking hooks. None of the slower songs seem to capture like "Unwinding Cable Car" or "Fin" did. I will listen to a few songs from the album in the near future but I can't see them lasting any longer than that. Easily forgettable. Don't get the hype.

| 2.5 average | cailleach | October 18th 12 | I listened to it because of the good ratings, haven't heard of them before. The sound is ok, but after a few songs I felt it kept repeating, and I was bored by the lyrics. Too much noise and not enough sound for me, too heavy on the e-guitar and synthesizer, but that's more of a genre problem I suppose.
