An unfortunate let down for me. Yes my expectations were high but I was ready and willing to let a few things slide. I didn't think I was on the brink of being tested to my ultimate. Sadly, as a whole this is weak. The first two tracks are solid and decent and sometimes even good, but the rest is meh. Borings riffs, nothing really draws me in or makes me feel warm. A step-back from the s/t indeed, I lie here with blood spilling out my sides.

doubtlessly good but the lack of progression from the self-titled to here makes the delivery of this album pretty bittersweet. all the pissing about with orchestration amounted to almost nothing that the s/t didn't do and sometimes better, time i often just coming across as bloated in comparison.

Met and shattered every expectation. A grandiose, over-the-top release, while remaining incredibly mature. rOnly complaint is the album length. It just feels a tad underwhelming when you are only left with ~35 minutes rof metal.

With this release Jari has exchanged most of the speed, ferocity, and heaviness the first ralbum had for epicness and atmosphere. It should be noted that since this is only the first rhalf of 'Time', there may be much more in store for us next year. With that being said, the ralbum is still great, "Sons of Winter and Stars" being the strongest track. While not what rmost fans were expecting and a slight disappointment, we should wait for 'Time II' before we rgive our full opinion of the album we've been waiting for.

Although undoubtedly cheesy and over-dramatic, Time I delivers a mesmerizing and beautifully

Leaving large gaps between album releases is always risky business for any band, regardless of how well established they might be. Within a half decade or more (as is often the case) tastes can change wildly between listeners, with some finding it hard to relive a musical part of their life that may feel like forever ago. The more hardcore fans, on the other hand, may have used this time away from their favourite band to build up hype, while relying on a back catalogue, constantly putting more stock on those records. In short, when the time finally comes, it can be hard to live up to all the expectations the listen may have created by this point.rThis was the problem with epic/extreme metal band Wintersun, taking 8 years (with a series of promised dates and push-backs) between their self-titled debut (a ridiculously awesome piece) and the sophomore effort, Time I. Perhaps I?ve fallen to the hype-train I so often try to avoid, but this album just seems to lack the punch of its predecessor. The obvious Japanese influences feel forced and out of place, as do most of the tracks here. The end result here isn?t something awful; as far as symphonic metal goes, this is right on par with the rest of them. The problem is, this album could?ve been so much farther beyond its peers, but instead comes off as a pretty forgettable release. r

Eight years down the line and the only unanimous thing one could argue is that Time I wouldn't satisfy everyone. Even so, it's tough to look at this as a just follow-up that continues and progresses from such a varied and encompassing predecessor. Power, folk and synthetic influences dominate with little bite to seep into your skin. If speaking in temperatures, the cold is bitter as a cold shoulder--from a lack of truly dark and frigid material altogether.

While not quite living up to Jari's previous work, that isn't to say Time I isn't spectacular, on the contrary, it's a long and engaging album with creative riffing, fast speed and many fresh interesting ideas all compacted into rather long songs. In short, Jari started something with this album, something that could either blossom into a fantastic follow up, or fade into obscurity, let's hope that he can surpass this album as well and act on his creative potential even more.

I personally think the album is really great and well worth the wait. It turned out to be quite what I expected: not very riff-centric, melodies on top of another, really epic and beautiful and of course heavily orchestrated. What suprised me though, is the lack of solos. There is practically one solo on the whole album. What is more, the songs (except SoWaS) are quite slow, and the blast beat from the first album is only apparent in a couple of sections. I don't mind though, especially considering the fact that Time II will confirmedly have more fast-paced songs and long solos.rSons of Winter and Stars is the ultimate winner here, one of the best songs I've ever heard. My second favourite must be the intro. So beautiful and magical. The other songs are a bit different than what we have used to hear from Jari, but after a couple of spins they reveal their magic too. The last track is the weakest one here imo, but it's still amazing. With this album Jari M?enp?? remains my favourite musician and I'm already looking forward to part II!

I mean it's epic and grandiose and all that shit but that epic feeling should be carried out by killer melodies and amazing songwriting and not through layers and layers and layers of synth, even though I also enjoy that sound. It's a fun listen but it's short and it isn't that memorable to be honest, plus the drum sound is terrible which is not good because Kai Hahto is awesome. Honestly, I like their self titled a lot better, and even though this is also a very good record, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed.
