The production is pretty good, the features are great, and Donald actually sounds like a rreal rapper now!

His best effort so far, but still pretty hit and miss. He actually has some decent line, there's some amazing beats and good guest spots, but there's also a lot of bad Donald Glover flow and some equally as lame beats and guest spots. On another note... BECK'S KILLIN IT RIGHT NOW

A solid mixtape overall. Royalty exceeds Camp by my measure. Better lyrics, better beats, and more things are covered in Royalty. You can tell that he wasn't really going for the pop oriented sound on this one, just good music with lyrics from the heart.

The Royalty Mixtape sees Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) continuing to grow as an artist/rapper, picking up more and more big names to accompany him each time out. While not as hard hitting as his Camp studio album, this mixtape is more than entertaining, and shouldn't be missed, even if it's to check out Tina Fey rapping...

Ugh. This is the most disappointing Rap release in recent memory. The entire tape is Gambino trying to get cred in the Rap world. His major regression since Camp makes me lose hope he'll ever release any other good material.

This is the part where most people would say something ridiculous and drop the n-word but I'm not gonna do that!

Childish Gambino trades in his Lil Wayne/Kanye West flow for a Big Sean/2 Chainz flow.

I was bored as fuck with this on my first listen, but it has grown on me. The production is good and Gambino's rapping game has improved but a lot of the songs seem rather empty and have kinda weak beats. The featured guests deliver and it is surprisingly diverse. Recommended tracks: American Royalty, Wonderful.

I'm just really confused as to why this is listed as a compilation...

the guy who gave it a 2.5 thought Beck killed his verse. guess he's really "turning traumas into nirvanas". ughhhhh.
|4.0 excellent||Ryan Lizotte | July 6th 12|
Big difference from Camp. You can tell that Donald had a different agenda than Camp. His verses are better, the production has completely elevated, and the guest collaborators just top it all. Royalty.

For anyone who was not a fan of his I AM JUST A RAPPER mixtapes this will be a welcomed change of style. Royalty sees him throw out the rap-over indie tracks for more mainstream style production. Main difference between this and his previously released work is the use of features from very well respected rappers. Definitely worth a download even if you haven't enjoyed his other work.
