Clocking in at almost an hour long, The Union Of Crowns is a bit of an ordeal to make it through. However,
there are some moments of inspiration in spite of some criminally bad lead vocals, amid a barrage of
breakdowns. Bury Tomorrow have really stepped it up instrumentally, with melodic death metal lines that
could be cut from As I Lay Dying's The Powerless Rise. Bury Tomorrow manage to offer up an atmosphere
different to their peers, avoiding many of the pitfalls bands such as Miss May I and The Eyes Of A Traitor (later
work) have fallen into - being unable to forge a sound of their own. So much of an improvement they have
undergone, the sound is barely recognisable from the band's debut album Portraits. One thing that has
remained constant is the stellar performance of clean vocalist Jason Cameron. There can't be many better
clean vocalists in modern metalcore and his versatility in moving between high and low, soft and loud is
remarkable. Ignoring the unnecessarily lengthy run time of the album, they have found a nice balance here
between heavy and melodic and this album is a must check out for fans of melodic metalcore.

A very solid release by a band that is begining to tap into potential they showed on Portraits. Excellent leads that incorporate melodeath influences and good drumming. The harsh vocalist may rub some te wrong way but the cleans more than make up for it. Any fan of metalcore should check this out.

Doesn't really do it for me, while there are a fair number of awesome and interesting moments there are an equal number of laughably bad moments. The clean singer is by far the best thing about this band, it's a shame the rest is so bland.r

The ultra generic riffs, forced screams, and bland drumming should be a clear turn off for anyone looking for a quality metalcore album, but what makes this release stand out from the hordes of bands just like them is their clean vocalist, who's gorgeous tones sound just as impressive as they did on the last record. Though one would expect the rest of the band to step their game up for this release, no such thing happened. Indeed, Dani-Winter Bates' vocals now sound worse than ever, devoid of range or depth and just a series of shitty grunts accentuated by Jason Cameron's harmonies on many an occasion, which is a blessing because it drowns out his tuneless grunting. The production here is pretty shit even compared to the last album, and the fact that the band use the same riff over and over again make this quite a tiresome listen. Pick out Knight Life, The Maiden and Sceptre, hell any song with Jason's vocals on the chorus, for some of the most infectious hooks you'll hear in modern metal but don't expect anything more from this very bland collection of metakcore tunes.

Not usually a metalcore fan but this album is exceptionally good. Clean vocals are outstanding and production is all round very good.

One of the best melodic metalcore albums ever released. Not that that's saying much, but yeah this is great.

The growls are hard to swallow on occasion, but they're not unlistenable meanwhile Jason Cameron has managed to improve his voice quite a bit, and the guitars remind me a lot of melodic death metal bands like Darkest Hour. Great album.

Union of Crown's is a metalcore album before anyone stops reading hear me out first.
This is their first debut album under Nuclear blast records, let's see how this stacks up. Fourth teen track affair about 55 mins in length. First thing you will notice is that this is run of the mill metalcore mixed with technical/melodic edge which is not bad. The guitars are sweeping, shredding that all the technical boys love.Think of The Air I Breathe with more melody. Actually that side saves this album from being mediocre metalcore in a sense. They use a mix between clean poppy vocals and harsh growls. The album shines the most on the first five tracks especially "An Honorable Reign" The main problems i have with the album is the length and atfer a while the songs do sound like the same. But it's a good release mind you probably one of the better metalcore release in a long time in my opinion.

As far as metalcore releases goes - this is one of the best if not the best of what I've heard.

This was one of my most anticipated this year and held up to my borderline fanboyism.

Lead vocals are not too awful and there is plentiful amount of chugging, but five tracks
bring some life that'd I recommend buying on their own; Message to a King, Royal Blood,
Kingdom, 1603, and Sceptres.

Sceptres, Redeemer, Royal Blood... honestly too good to be true

Right now it's between a 3.5 and a 4, but the fact that the band has expanded upon its melodic metalcore deserves some praise. This was a band that seemed heavily rooted in the "metalcore guilty pleasure" status with "Portraits", but this record finds the band adding a heap of melodeath influences a la new As I Lay Dying or older Still Remains. It won't show up on a lot of top 10 lists, but if you enjoy the genre, it may be one your most played list.
