The fucking peak of Maniac era Mayhem. The production is similar to Mediolanum capta est which boasted a more hi-fi sound than most black metal. Comparing the two shows, Mediolanum introduced the listener to Maniac's stage prescence, although the band and Maniac were still perfecting their chemistry. The DVD film of Live in Marseille 2000 provides a sharp contrast in how much more confident Maniac is on the stage evidenced by him doing more than just headbanging and air guitaring but also most notable in how improved his vocals are (probably thanks to how huge and theatrical the band's stage is). Hellhammer's drumming is insane (although it sounds like he was using Lars Ulrich's drum kit from the ...And Justice for All album... that or perhaps he used triggers) and Necrobutcher, and Blasphemer are top notch as always but purely listening to it as audio and watching the video, it's very clear how tight the performance is and how each member feeds of their energy and applies it to their performance. A must for every metalhead fan and essential for any Mayhem fan
