| 2.0 poor | Deviant STAFF | June 17th 12 | A Thousand Suns was a terrible album, we all know that. But at least it was LP trying to experiment and have a little fun in the wake of nu-metal's death and the less than warm reception they received when they tried to, y'know "grow up". But while ATS failed because of its experimental nature, at least they were trying to shake things up a bit. This is not a band trying at all; Living Things might not be the group's worst outing but it sure as shit is their most boring outing to date. I mean, it really is fucking boring.
The anthemic choruses that seemed to have been designed as nothing more than to give those in attendance something to do are the words of any oppressed kid scratching his heartbreak on a school desk, held in place by a group of individuals well into their thirties. The electro-pop shlock instrumentation just feels tired and washed-out, and there's just this feeling of laziness surrounding the whole affair; the tired drudgery of a group realizing that it's time for another album. It isn't a return to form (seriously, what are you guys deaf?), but it also isn't even an attempt at it. It's LP, now on the other side of the Great Success Story spiralling ever downwards without the good graces to bow out sensibly. And come on now; you're one of the most commercially-successful "rock" outfits ever to have had the chance to shout on the radio, who are you kidding with this "victimized, victimized, never again victimized" bullshit?

| 3.0 good | Sputnik`s Resident Deity and Peacekeeper | June 16th 12 | 'Living Things' is surprisingly good. Wait...rephrase--it's good, surprisingly, if only just. Unlike every other Linkin Park album, though, this one is not heavy for the sake of heaviness, not angsty for the sake of angst, and not monotonous for the sake of maturity, yet it's still very interesting and fun to listen to...and that's where its true charm lies.

| 3.5 great | SatelliteYears | June 15th 12 | Might take a few listens to really appreciate, but it's better than A Thousand Suns - it's
less fragmented and more put-together. I'm loving the dense electronic vibes all over the
album, but it may divide a few people. Still not Hybrid Theory/Meteora, but it's pretty
close. Mike Shinoda/Mr. Hahn are the winners here, delivering impressive performances. I
will say, though, that I wish there were more than 12 songs here, clocking in around 37
minutes. LP is slightly better when they include a 4-6 minute song or two.
Overall, solid.

| 2.0 poor | butchinette, herself | June 20th 12 | I don't hear any trace of Hybrid Theory or Meteora on here. It's sad, because 10 years ago, Linkin Park was my favorite band. And those two albums rocked my adolescent life back then. But Living Things is just as sad and lame as Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Sun. Third time's a charm? Well, not in this case. Why aren't they quitting? They're just humiliating themselves with each shitty album they're putting out! Listening to Linkin Park's Living Thing right now is really deceiving and painful.

| 3.0 good | StackedTuna | June 19th 12 | Living Things is a not a bad album. Its full of some great songs, and some disappointing. Its a big improvement from the too experimental album A Thousand Suns. None of the songs really compare to the classic Hybrid Theory/Meteora tracks, however they are still good songs. I believe if you dont listen to this album with the mindset of wanting Hybrid Theory, you will enjoy it. Yes, Linkin Park have changed, but whether theres loud distortion guitars, or pounding electronic beats, this album proves they can still write good music.

| 3.0 good | merpmerp | December 11th 12 | After the questionable release of A Thousand Suns, fans everywhere, including myself, were
left to wonder if Linkin Park was dead. This album gave them their answer. While it's not as
spectacular or as angst-filled as previous releases, it's a decent album. With more of
Shinoda (who is honestly their most talented memeber) and less of the angry screams, Linkin
Park have shown their softer side with this one. While it is boring during the latter half,
there's some good to be found here. It's not the return to form that many expected, but it
certainly is a solid release nonetheless.

| 2.5 average | toxin | October 6th 12 | I wanted to like this. I really did. There are tracks I genuinely enjoy, but LP manages to fuck everything up. 'Lost in the Echo' was a great track with one of my favorite intros by the band, but for some reason they ruin that fantastic melody with screams. I wouldn't say that LP were good song-writers in their prime, but they knew how to construct a good pop song (Numb, In the End, Breaking the Habit, even What I've Done) and keep the screams and more 'nu-metal' elements in the harder songs (like 'Faint'). In their attempt to throw back to their old style, the band adds in screams and raps, but it's not done as tastefully. 'Lies Greed Misery' absolutely kills any flow the album had for me. The chorus of 'Burn It Down' sounds too much like the band was going for a hit instead of making it appropriate to the (very good) verses. Ultimately, this is an album that had potential to be good, on par with Meteora at the least. Unfortunately the result was unmemorable and messy.

| 4.0 excellent | OnFireAlive | September 24th 12 | I had no problem digesting this album, even though Hybrid Theory and Meteora were pretty much musically life changing for.rI think this is a very solid album. The last two were really unorganized, more like a scattered pile of ideas, with some really good material, and some really bad material. Living Things is a much more homogeneous effort, and has - in my opinion - a much higher replay value as a whole.
Bump |
| 2.5 average | j1myz | September 4th 12 | Getting tired of the ultra-generic song structures of songs such as 'lost in the echo' and 'I'll be gone'. This thread of boredom first arose most noticeably in 'New Divide' and 'What I've Done'- disappointing to see it still prevalent in the work of a band with real potential to be original (A Thousand Suns at times demonstrated this).

| 2.5 average | Deuce8311 | June 20th 12 | Chester has always had a good voice, but not good enough to carry an album as is the case here. Fuck changing with the times I along with with everyone else that used to love LP back in the day want to hear Hybrid Theory and Meteora. Even though that whole movement is dead, I'm pretty sure a record like that would perform better than the bullshit they've been putting out since then. I really do not know who I am listening to, and if it weren't for the name of the artist, this album would not perform as well as it's going to. Now all of that being said, Living Things isn't absolutely terible. It's a notch better than A Thousand Suns but honestly nobody knew what the hell that was. I only wish LP woud return to their signature and award-winning sound one day because many including myself would welcome back nu-metal with open arms if it meant getting something better than what has been released the past two times.
Bump |
| 3.0 good | jday | June 20th 12 | This is more like what I expected from A Thousand Suns, a lot more edge and charge. It's faster and it's catchier, but despite all that, it still doesn't compare with Hybrid Theory or Meteora.
Bump |
| 0.0 | ASnideRemark | June 19th 12 | Bringing forth their years of experience and four albums of musical experimentation and juxtaposing them together, Linkin Park has finally created the album they have been striving for since they first leaped into the music community, with swift electronic input, powerful vocals from both Bennington and Shinoda and multiple instrumental ideas that do not confine them to one genre like their previous efforts.
Bump |
| 2.5 average | MegaJake1024 | June 19th 12 | Its pretty good, but that doesn't mean I'm happy with it. Just like everyone else, I'd like to hear some songs that actually have some passion behind them, a little angst. Some good instrumentation, not poppy techno shit. Its impressive that LP can make this sound decent, but it just isn't nearly as good as their former style. And screaming doesn't make a song hard if the instrumentation is still sissy - meaning Lies, greed..., victimized, lost in... Faint was hard, and it had some electro. How bout some of that shit?
Bump |
| 0.0 | not~~~~~thingck | June 18th 12 | LP releases a new record , it-s better than ATS ? = Yes , ATS experiment portrayed a nu-rock band in uncomfortable territory , Living things does just about everything right , it gathers different styles from past albums to create a consistent diverse piece, this is far away from AOTY* lists but it's 100% worthy of listening. Living Things just successes at all levels Linkin Park had to .. though the lyrics are still generic (Victimized) , they manage to pull things gold on the instrumental section .. give it a spin :`

I was quite excited to see the negative comments comparing this to ATS, because that meant I'll probably love it. And I do. rLinkin Park have evolved from a nu-metal act that screamed 'Shut up when I'm talking to you' right to the band which almost have created the soundtrack to the type of Judgement Day described in the Terminator films. Their songs aren't as 'poppy' as they use to be, but they're a lot catchier and more memorable. People might not agree with me, but really it's that diversity of opinion that makes this site so interesting to read.rComa33
