The idea of a double album from Baroness was somewhat off putting at first, as each of their albums are so full of twists, turns, build ups and just plain old booming mischief that 18 tracks of it would be like running a marathon after finishing a triathlon. Yet thankfully Yellow and Green works. If one had been following the band it wouldn't be that much of a surprise that it does. Baizley has stated not only that the records would lack "edge", so to speak, but also would be much more straightforward. The songwriting is direct and to the point and Baizley's vocals are no longer burly mountain man shouts, but instead he shows off his clean vocal skills throughout. The sound is not only more "rock" oriented, but at times shows flashes of bands such as Cave In during their Perfect Pitch Black era in both mood and approach. It is definitely an interesting outing that is propelled by equal parts 70's influence and modern swagger. Fans of the riff oriented Baroness of old might be off put and understandably so, but for those looking for a quality rock and roll record look no further.

Baroness have crafted a masterpiece in their Discog. The songs hit hard without being super heavy, the guitar work is stunning. It's almost like a Metal Pink Floyd. Seeing these guys live with Meshuggah back in May really proved their worth for me.

First off, I can see why hardcore Baroness fans would hate this, but I actually quite enjoy it. It's pretty funny to see these guys follow Mastodon in almost every way in terms of career paths. Not to say this or any other Baroness works sound like Mastodon albums but just the way they went from "Brutal" to more accessible with each album. With Yellow And Green you get pure emotion which was lacking in previous efforts. You can tell this album comes straight from the heart and has pain and anguish driven right into it. Great listen, but not for everyone

I'm really sad that this might be their swan song. I was taken aback at first but after taking another listen to the albums they don't suck by any means but there was no way yellow and green could have lived up to all the hype surrounding them. They took some risks and delivered something that was unexpected but ultimately they are a thing of beauty.

I can definitely hear the change in direction. Instead of the sludgy prog-metal of their first 2 albums, it's more of a the middle-of-the-road prog-rock sound. While at first it doesn't sound all that appealing, a couple tracks into the double-album Baroness start making the listen worth while. While not perfect, the album just works. 3.6/5

Baroness tries their hardest to sound different on every song... and it works. Their sludge metal leanings are still evident, but they widen their interests more and more with each note hit. They create an overly ambitious, but generally very good double album that wears its mistakes on its sleeve and sets out to fail but discovers interesting things along the way.

My favorite release by this band and I consider it to be an instant classic. I personally love the chill/softer side of metal, and this album satisfies that need. While this album does tend to focus more on the experimental/softer side of the band, there are still a fair share of heavy/sludgy moments on this album. However the heavy/sludgy moments on this album don't seem as heavy as on past releases by this band, which is not a bad thing at all. If I had to rate each album on its own I would give "Yellow" a 5/5 and "Green" a 4.75/5. "Yellow" is the stronger side of the album. Every song is a standout track, containing its own identity and diversity. While "Green" is still a great album, the flow of the album isn't as smooth as "Yellow". The songs on "Green" are also not as memorable as songs on "Yellow". That's not to take away from this album at all. I love every single song on this ambitious double-album. There aren't any major flaws that I can point out.

There's nothing really wrong here, solid songwriting and some pretty enjoyable songs like "March to the Sea", "Sea Lungs" or "Eula" but it lacks some serious replay value, at least for me.

Every colour is different to each other exactly like Baroness' albums are. This time we get
interesting mixture of clear, catchy tunes with some more blurred and sludgy guitar work,
but overall not so sharp and heavy like on previous records. Yellow side seems realy
excellent for me while on the green one I have experienced some kind of boredom sometimes.
Anyway I consider it as a really great record. Not red, neither blue. It's just yellow and
green and listeners probably will have to accept that.
