This is really, really terrible. Not that everybody didn't already know that.

As expected from a MMI album - rehashed breakdowns and riffs, as well as badly placed choruses. Ballad of a Broken Man is the only song on this album worth anything, and it's still subpar compared to today's metalcore standards.

Honestly one of the best albums in the metalcore genre (in my opinion). Everyone goes into this album with preconceived views. Previous fans are disappointed that it is more metal than 'core,' and that the glossy production is gone while critics are still sad that there is any 'core' left in the sound at all. This is album is very balanced in my opinion, and showcases many sides of the band. 12 songs may be a little too long, but I can listen to it straight through with occasionally skipping one or two tracks.

With only two good songs, "Hey Mister" and "Ballad of a Broken Man", Miss May I have completely disregarded the potential that they had in favor of making generic, repetitive, breakdown-laden metalcore with mediocre clean vocals, predictable drumming, and unimaginative guitar. While the instrumentals are still up to par on the two songs mentioned, the rest of the album it almost seems as though they are purposely keeping the instrument arrangements simple, when they are capable of so much more.

This has gotta be the most frustrating album I've heard in a while. The band is pretty much doing everything I want: staying melodic while busting out a bunch of sick hard riffs; however, the cleans, although I love cleans in metal, are atrocious. Need a new clean singer so bad, so bad. Neff should keep his job as bassist and they should just get a clean vocalist.

Read their article in AP and appreciate what they're trying to do. Miss May I is known for their crushing breakdowns and majority of "scene" fans. They wanted to make an album that has no labels and the true fans such as yours truly would stick by them no matter what. I appreciate their effort to try and make something different than in the past, but it was nothing special. Neff's vocals appear very monotone and drag the songs down a bit, which is the exact opposite of what a clean chorus is suppose to do. On the other hand, Levi's vocals have once again improved, so has the rest of the band. MMI avoid being completely generic with overused breakdowns and make a pretty good record. Hopefully in their next effort they fix the mistakes and possibly get another clean vocalist to help make the next album even better.

When compared to the best of this genre, this album and this band kinda fall flat on their face.

I was a bit disappointed with this album, but it's still enjoyable, just doesn't really have that flare. The choruses seem even cheesier, and the HEY HEY anthemic chants are just plain ridiculous. I really don't know what exactly they were going for on this album. Best part of it is Levi's improved screams which are awesome.

The overall consensus is that At Heart is an improvement instrumentally, the riffs are quite a bit better than their previous efforts but the clean vocals totally kill it. Horrible.

Where did you find the album? I have been looking around for it and one I downloaded didn't work.. It was asking for a password so I assumed it was a crap torrent... I know torrents are illegal and such and this isnt where I should post this question but I want to hear the album and then I will follow up with my review

I'm enjoying this, though some of the songs sort of blend together.
