L`Enfant Sauvage unfortunately falls JUST short of its predecessors. While the songs here
are magnificent, Gojira`s mannerisms are starting to wear thin. Often you will hear the
familiar pick slide, pinch harmonics, and their distinct tapping style. This familiarity, at
times, can make certain riffs/structures seem formulaic in nature. On top of that, less
riffs exist per song. Even fewer are as memorable as guitar work they`ve conveyed in the
past.
Mostly gone are the guttural vocals found on "From Mars to Sirius". Joe now favors a styling
somewhere in between shouting and singing(compatible to choruses found on "The Way of All
Flesh"). It would have been favorable if Joe explored some of his range exemplified on the
aforementioned album. The drum work is interesting as always. As a result of the toned down
guitar work, Mario's technical prowess moves even further into the forefront. "Mouth of
Kala" is proof that he has never sounded more massive behind the kit.
Gojira have created an album that new fans will gush over. Older Gojira aficionados will
notice that the band are becoming less heavy and technical with each release. Even though
this LP has moved the band further in this certain direction, the material found on L'Enfant
Sauvage is still some of the best of 2012!

While I laugh at all the users here and their "first impression" ratings/ rants, I would just like to say that if you have this rated between a 3 and a 4, then you certainly know a thing or two about your world being heavy on the metal. I mean, you've been waiting for something "really" special to be released all the while Gojira just had to shake things up while you wait as they present to you a nifty little album full of colossal riffs and monster sized beats.

The problem is that my brain keeps separating the title track and Liquid Fire, ignoring their excellence and rdiversity from the rest of the album cuz' I heard those first. It's awesome, just as good as the 2 before, after ra couple of tens of listens. Maybe even their best.

While not as impressive as it's preceding album, L'Enfant Sauvage proves that the French metal titans are still at the top of their game. This is definitely a 2012 album worth listening to.

Neat album but it isn't as great as their last couple of releases. The band focused way too much on utilizing those nifty hooks that they have been using since Terra Incognita and some songs like 'The Fall' are really boring. The best track on the album is 'Pain is a Master'. If the second half of the album didn't pick up the way it had then I would have given this a 3/5.

An unusually simplistic and melodic album by Gojira's standards and a major dissapointment to most of their fans, but still did anyone think they would release a third major masterpiece in a role? Not many bands can do that, and L'enfant sauvage is good enough to maintain Gojira's status of one of the best and most innovative metal bands of our times.

It just gets boring. Gojira used to be pretty good about throwing in enough change-ups and points of interest, but this is just an okay album that really holds no playback value.

I honestly couldn't get into this album. A few cool moments aside, I was left kind of bored. Most of the songs feel too long, even at four and a half minutes or so, and it just doesn't do anything spectacular for me. Not a bad album, but definitely one of the more overrated albums of 2012.

On L'enfant Sauvage Gojira tries to take a more progressive approach to their style of metal, but it all ends up hit and miss. While there a few pretty great tracks on this album, most songs end up sounding extremely similar and lacking. Other than the songs themselves, the instrumentation was average at best on this tape and the vocals were pretty weak, which is something I wasn't used too with Gojira. The weakness in the vocals made most of this album sound like a radio rock album and not the typical heaviness we are used too with Gojira album. Overall, a decent album with a few great tracks being held down by weak vocals and lack of diversity.

A great aggressive album that doesn't stop until the end. Gojira does a great job of keeping the listener interested but it does get a little thin in parts. The production is cold but well done and it works for this style or metal. I love this album, one of the best this year.

Fantastic background metal. It totally grows on me and these songs totally stick in my head for some reason even though when I pay attention they aren't all that groundbreaking. Gotta bump my rating up after listening a couple weeks.

Right along with the majority of Gojira's other work; the album in its entirety isn't out of this world fan-tucking-fastic, but several solid songs and a distinctly heavy sound very unlike contemporaries makes for a hell of an album. On first listen it is easily a solid 4, but I know for a fact that with familiarity I will jack this up to a near-5. 4.3/5

Like when Mastodon pulled back the throttle on Crack the Skye, Gojira spend a lot of time impressing with mid-paced creative forays, but not really thrilling you. If that comparison proves accurate, however, it will be a big time grower.
