Certainly a unique Testament album; many of their best songs off of their first two albums are rerecorded in a much heavier style. With that said, you are probably better off getting The Legacy and The New Order before this; as interesting an album this is.

Old songs recorded again ... more power, better production, what more can one ask for?
First Strike and Into the Pit stick to our ears and the rest... vintage Testament!

I'm glad that this album gets more love here,
as I find that the songs on this to sound
vastly superior to the originals. Don't
get me wrong, the classics remain classic, but
this versions infuses them with modern
sensibilities, making the songs much more
brutally sounding.
Needless to say, the line-up provides us with
stellar performances from all band members,
most notably John Tempesta on drums and Steve
Digorgio on bass.If you want to get into
Testament, this is a damn fine choice.

The production isn't even as good as Low, and I thought The New Order sounded fine anyways, so the "better production" thing doesn't really do anything for me. This does have plenty of tracks from their fantastic debut The Legacy, which unfortunately suffers from poor, dated production. Now if this would have been exclusively songs from The Legacy and similarly poorly produced Souls of Black...I still would have been disappointed, because as it is, this album takes tracks from Testament's classic first two albums...and sucks all the life and old school charm out of them! They just don't sound as fun with Chuck Billy's changed voice. Or with guitars tuned to Drop-D.

A great compilation and a good way to get into Testament. Be sure to check the original releases too. This is heavy and brutal...or simply Testament

Testament's old songs with fantastic production and superb vocals by Chuck Billy. Great release, although the last two songs would have sounded much better without Steve Souza at the helm.

you can listen to some of their older selections, but i don't always have the means to turn up my radio as loud as possible just to hear it. this is a breath of fresh air and works wonders in the gym.

Got Testament's greatest hits, said "Man their old stuff's great but it sounds like CRAP!" Enter First Strike Still Deadly. EVERY SONG is given a punishing 21st century facelift and Chuck Billy sounds better than ever. Still despise Skolnick's lead tone (he's a great player though) but everything else rocks so hard I overlook it!
