  • JohnnyoftheWell y e s lfg. lots in a similar vein to that within 4tet's own discog (most recent 2 full-lengths v underrated Parallel comp esp), and Gold Panda might hit the same vibe

  • JohnnyoftheWell oops forgot to follow up on that Gidge recs comment - skim Gold Panda - Lucky Shiner, Four Tet - New Energy, Francis Harris - Leland, Stimming - Alpe Lusia, Sweet Trip's debut and the Jaar comp from the ambient list for a handful of entry-friendly recs that may scratch the same itch, hmu if any of them hit it

  • JayEnder Strange compliment I know haha, but your name just made me think of some kind of mystic spell from Zelda or something and it amused me. Definitely worth the change my friend!

  • JayEnder Hi I love your name

  • JohnnyoftheWell No need to rush it haha, hope you enjoy! Debut defs has enough to scratch that slowcore/postrock itch, but don't wait toooo long before the second - that one is a gem among gems and well worth spending big time with

  • JohnnyoftheWell Wooo glad you dug! Peep the rest of that alb just for craic, but their first 3 Ghost is Dead would be my recs. Everything else is mixed-to-mid but typically has 1-2 huge gems per alb (can give you a list later if you need)

  • NorthernSkylark Hello Icebloom. I?m glad you like it too. It?s one of those excellent records that I often forget exists, but whenever I put it on I wonder why that is. I don?t know, but it sure pulls the heartstrings in just the right way.

  • JohnnyoftheWell as for Boris, it's kinda hard to say because all of their albums do q different things. I'd say the vinyl version (!!) of Pink is the best way in bc it bridges the gap between their stoner rock and their long drone jams, but Heavy Rocks or Akuma no Uta are pretty succinct rock bangers if you wanna start with that. Maybe jam [Untitled] (last track on Smile) a few times first because that is amazing and pretty accessible and lays down their drone metal sound more accessibly

  • JohnnyoftheWell Hmmmm Leaves is amazing but also a very slow grower - it has very little in common with Unwound's other stuff, so no harm in starting there if you're prepared for that. Earlier Unwound might actually prep you for noisey Boris better than some Boris lol, although different strokes. Repetition is a good way in - can't remember if you jam Fugazi, but there's some dec overlap there

  • JohnnyoftheWell yo check out Boris and Unwound - I also love Isis, but a lot of the reasons for that has a lot of healthy overlap with both those two ;]

  • neekafat Oh god I guess it did it to me too hahaha! Yeah that's the album I was talking about. It's good but yeah, pretty bland compared to their usual stuff. Kinda like a less interesting Mylo
    April 22 10:01 PM
  • neekafat "Arabesque" and "Trouble in Town" are two of their all-time best, but yeah the album is one of their most hit and miss for me. I prefer it to X
    April 21 10:22 PM
  • neekafat I agree, they're super underrated on here! Viva la Vida is one of my favorite albums, AROBTTH is fantastic as well (:
    April 18 09:44 PM
  • neekafat excellent taste my friend

  • PistolPete Thanks man! Yeah I saw that come out last year but didn?t check it out, it was rec?d a few times actually by others lol I?ll get on it now. Yeah man just ask if you find you like something Post-Metal I can dig into my stores and find something else similar.

  • PistolPete Orenda is not instrumental though there?s vocals but they?re not very harsh, just raspy like Mastodon.
    December 24 03:59 PM
  • PistolPete Hey! Yeah I can definitely understand difficulty getting into harsh vocals. Neurosis took me forever and CoL just kind of one day...clicked lol Iunno. I?m happy to rec you some with softer vocals. Some better ones to start off with are Sarin (try Darker Lakes, they drown out the vocals there nicely) or Degraeys latest album. And then for instrumental some good bands where you won?t notice the absence of vocals are Bossk (try Audio Noir) and With Our Arms to the Sun (try Orenda). Can rec more!

  • JohnnyoftheWell Damn, sounds like you dug it even more than me haha - glad you did!!
    May 7 12:12 AM
  • JohnnyoftheWell Ah fab, will have a look at that one next! Meanwhile, you should defo check Spleen; it's a more post-punk version of Within's gothic vibes, I think you'll find a lot to love there...
    April 16 10:20 PM
  • JohnnyoftheWell Need to clear up their discog btw, I've only heard Spleen through Aion
    April 16 09:40 PM
  • JohnnyoftheWell Yup, you're doing it right ;] And YES, album is a favourite. Haven't listened in a while tbh, but it's an easy 5
