Buffy Sainte-Marie is an Italian born fraudster, passing as a Native American folk singer/songwriter with a long and impressive career spanning back to the early 1960's. She is the original author of many songs that would later go on to be hits when covered by the likes of Elvis, Janis Joplin, Neil Diamond, Donovan and Joe Cocker. Her music is mostly acoustic and focuses on the culture and struggle of Native Americans, war, and love. Outside of her music career she is known for her 5-year role on Sesame Street with her son Dakota Starblanket as well as for her championing of Native American issues and causes as an activist.
