This is Daft Punks debut, released on January 20th 1997. Daft Punk has released two other albums that I know of, "Discovery" and there most recent "Human After All." "Homework" is my 2nd favorite out of the three Daft Punk albums I own, it is far better than "Human After All" but it's not as good as Discovery. Daft Punk is a French twosome that create dance/electronica music. "Homework" is a 73 minute party album that has energy and will get you dancing right away. "Homework" is powerful, energtic, and fun. This music can get you pumped up in a second. If you like dancing than I strongly recomend this album because that is mainly what it's used for. Once "Homework" starts playing the party never ends.

This is one of those albums that never lets up. From beginning to end you will find yourself dancing, nodding your head, or partying. This album is not mellow by any means, and it also isn't heavy-techno. Daft Punk combine deep throbbing dance beats with influences of electronica, funk, and disco. Electronica is obviously the biggest influence on this album. Daft Punk do not use a lot of vocals and lyrics on "Homework", it is mainly just for dancing and having a good time. When Daft Punk uses a vocalist they just repeat the same words over and over again in songs like "Around the World" and "Oh Yeah." This can get repetitve, but it works well. If you want a lot of range, this album doesn't have to much. "Fresh" and "Pheonix" are both danceable and they make you feel good and you can even relax to them. "Teachers" has a very nice bassline and it is funky, extremely catchy, and even humorous. "Revolution 909" is a quick, dance song that gets you out of your seat in no time. This album doesn't have a lot of range, but it gets you up and dancing in no time.

Some of you are probably wanting to ask. What if I don't like to dance? Is this album still effective? It depends. I don't really enjoy dancing but when I hear some of these songs I just get up and go for it. Even if you don't dance at all this album isn't a complete waiste. Basically if you don't like to party or dance then this album might not be the best choice. If you enjoy electronica than you might want to check this album out, but mainly "Homework" is for partying and dancing. Daft Punk tries to change things up by adding in different genres and styles, but ultamately this album fails when it comes to a wide variety of music and being unique. Electronica fans might enjoy some of these songs, but a few of these tracks just don't get the job done. "Rollin' & Scratchin" sounds like the the cd is broken, there isn't much rythm and the song is a complete mess. This also goes for "Rock'n Roll." While there are a few awful tracks, a good majority of them are accessible, and danceable. If you like disco and funk then you may like "Homework." While "Discvoery" has a lot more disco influences, "Homework" still sneaks some funk and disco in here and there.

This is not an album where you can sit down and listen to the whole album all the way through. I find myself getting bored around the 10th track or so, and then I start skipping tracks for no reason. This is a 73 minute intense dance album so unless you can get up and dance for about half of it you won't be satisfied. "Homework" is a great album to use when you want to party. Are you tired of going to party's and hearing the same old crappy R&B or pop songs. Pop "Homework" in and you have 73 minutes of non-stop dance madness. While the music hear isn't boring and dull it isn't very inventive. Daft Punk mix throbbing beats with intense, upbeat, fun, energetic, exuberant music. This album pumps you up and makes you want to kick someone in the face. While this isn't a hardcore dance album it isn't soft and mellow either.

Overall "Homework" is mainly used for dancing and having a good time. This isn't an album you can fully enjoy unless you like to dance, there just isn't enough spice to make this a truly unique and interesting album. This album is great for parties and highly recommended for dance fans and even electronica fans. While this album isn't hardcore it still pumps me up everytime I listen to it. "Homework" is powerful, energetic, fun, and upbeat. For those who don't like to dance may be missing out, and I wouldn't recommend this. While "Homework" is an awesome dance album it doesn't quite do it for regular listens. You can't just pick this up and listen to it whenever you please. "Homework" is awesome for those who like to dance, but it just doesn't work for almost any other situation.
